THROUGH THE ROOF
Imagine the faith of the men who lifted a man through the roof of a house to ensure he received healing from Jesus despite the infinitely large crowd of people seeking something from Jesus. Imagine their strength. Imagine their perseverance. Imagine their endurance. Imagine their trust. Imagine their refusal to give up no matter how hard the challenge. Imagine how they did this for someone else and not themselves.

Imagine how many more comfortable, suitable, easy, simple, straightforward, fun, entertaining, and self-centered opportunities they had that day. Imagine how much they gave up for the man in need because they had such confidence in Jesus. I don’t have to imagine it. I haven’t had a mere four believers carry me through the roof through the years. I have had an army of human angels.
I cannot possibly count, nor truly remember, the endless array of women and men that have stood in the gap for me in recent years as they flexed their spiritual muscles and carried me through the roof to get to Jesus. The Bible tells the story of one man’s healing after four men lifted him through the roof of a house. They lifted him up to Jesus, literally.
For years now, I have had person after person lift me up in prayer, person after person point me to Jesus, person after person encourage me, person after person hold me up when I could do nothing but fall, person after person share their faith so I could lean on theirs until I had my own, and person after person not give up on me until I learned to put my faith in Jesus.
I never truly imagined the day would come along when I would be so healed that I would not merely be a woman being lifted up to the Lord. Today I am a woman lifting others up to the Lord. And just like those who lifted me up did it together like the men in the Bible, I am not alone in lifting others up. We are called as the Body of Christ to remember we are one in Christ. We have a job to do, but we are not called to do it alone. We are called to flex our spiritual muscles and lift our fellows up to the Lord.
Through the roof? Yes. Some of us need to be lifted up to this extreme. Some are an easy lift. Their burdens are lighter, and they are easier to manage. Others, like myself, are so weighed down with issues that strong, strong people of faith are needed to do the lifting – and many of them at that.
How I would love to thank each and every person who not only trusted in Jesus, but refused to give up on me. Some lifted me but for a moment. Some lifted me for a season. Some stood in there for the long haul. But all shared the lifting until I was lifted clear through the roof and lowered right where Jesus stood waiting to heal me.
I may not be able to thank them all, but I can do this. I can keep my heart and eyes open to the next person who comes along that needs lifting. And I can pass on what I have been given – a people of God so confident in Jesus that they would not only knew what I needed; they ensured I would get it.
