Sexual Assault Survivor & My Paralyzed Dog…….
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also abounds through Christ.” 2 Cor. 1:3-5
Only the Lord could have orchestrated saving and healing me from decades of brokenness to bringing into my life two paralyzed wheelchair doggies and their special needs sibling doggies, then sending me out on the road for Him full-time and continually using the dogs to introduce me to people in need – including a broken woman a few days past being sexually assaulted who took comfort in cuddling with paralyzed doggy Mr. Simeon as I held her hand and prayed for her.
We who have survived sexual assault whether recently or long ago know the indescribably tough feelings that go with it and can return even years after it, and suffice it to say the survivor to whom I was blessed to minister probably found more comfort in petting Mr. Simeon’s big floppy-eared face than she did in holding my hand.
But this isn’t about the comfort of a dog, friend. It’s about the comfort of the Lord. For the ultimate comfort she needed, and we all need, is not found in human hands and floppy-eared dogs. It’s found in the Lord Jesus Christ. He’s the one to whom we need to turn for everything from forgiveness for our sins to wisdom, direction, healing, and comfort.
Hold onto all the human hands God gives you to bring you comfort. And pet as many sweet loving paralyzed dogs He may bring into your life. But any and all of that comfort is nothing compared with the comfort of the God of all comfort.
Need comfort? Call on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. And receive the comfort of God almighty!
