Too Late for Heaven

“We then, as workers together with Him also plead with you not to receive the grace of God in vain. For He says: “In an acceptable time I have heard you, And in the day of salvation I have helped you.” Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.” 2 Cor. 6:1-2

I used to have a homeless friend who sat on the corner of my street every day for an hour or so for months until the day she committed her life to the Lord Jesus Christ and walked off to get her suitcase from where she had hidden it and went back home to family and to start her new life in Christ. Less than 24 hours after her joyful departure, the Lord sent another homeless woman I knew to sit on the sidewalk at that very same corner. It didn’t take me long when I saw her there to ask where she stood with the Lord Jesus Christ. Her answer was clear, honest, and direct. She listened to me share the Gospel message, told me she had heard it before, and that she simply wasn’t “ready” to commit her life to Christ. I asked her if she understood that one day it would be too late to repent and turn to Christ as Lord and that she was headed straight for eternity away from God in everlasting torment in hell and the lake of fire.

She understood clearly. In fact, she shared how she’d been told that she didn’t know when she would draw her last breath. I added that she could get up from the sidewalk, walk into the street and be hit by a truck and spend forever in hell and the lake of fire. In those minutes with her, I shared about forsaking all for Jesus as Lord, and that there is nothing more beautiful and glorious and wonderful and joyful and spectacular and phenomenal and breathtaking and amazing and awesome than being in Christ’s forever fellowship. I essentially made clear it’s totally worth leaving behind the ways of this world and our sinful lifestyle and lust for temporal worldly pleasures in order to commit our hearts and lives to Jesus and to be in God’s presence forevermore. Still, she held onto her position. She was willing to risk eternity with Jesus, and to take the chance of being in everlasting, yes never-ending, torment, to hold onto her sinful lifestyle and continue living for self, this world, and the devil. She just wasn’t “ready”.

My friend, there will come a day, and hour, when for each and every one of us who has not yet placed our trust in Christ as Lord, truly committing ourselves to God and His ways, living under Christ’s lordship forevermore, living for Christ day by day for now and eternity, it will be TOO LATE FOR HEAVEN. Most importantly, even more important than missing out on being in a perfect place living a perfect life forever will be that it will be TOO LATE TO HAVE AN EVERLASTING PERSONAL INTIMATE RELATIONSHIP WITH JESUS CHRIST AS OUR KING, LORD, SAVIOR, REDEEMER, HEALER, and BEST FRIEND.

If you have not yet turned away from your lifestyle of sin and entrusted your life to Jesus Christ as Lord who died for you on the cross to pay your sin penalty and was raised from the dead, genuinely committing yourself to God and His ways forever, may this very hour, this very moment, be the one you cry out to the Lord to forgive you your sins, believe He died for you and was raised from the dead, and commit your life forever to Him!

One day, friend, it will be too late. Oh, don’t let it be! Repent and give your life to Jesus who is Lord forever!
