Two-Minute Tragedy

Some tragedies happen over time. Some occur in a matter of minutes. This one happened in less than two. Tragedies cause heartbreak and heartache. Some have short-term consequences. Some have long-term ones. Some tragedy’s consequences are everlasting.

I was sitting in my car in a parking lot one day talking to a friend on the telephone when a man walked over to my car looking very excited to see me. We started to talk while I was still on the phone, but quickly it became clear I needed to say goodbye to my friend on the phone and give the man my full attention – and a message. If he was willing to hear it. A message whereby his response to it would have forever consequences. Little did I know what would transpire. Little did I know the tragedy that would ensue.

“Ma’am, do you have a couple of dollars?” he asked me.

I was in a town where this almost never happens and certainly not when someone is sitting in his or her car. But the man was on a mission and had decided I was the one he needed to talk to and ask for money.

“I’m so sorry, sir,” I replied. “I don’t give money,” I effectively said. “But I would love to talk to you about the Lord Jesus Christ, and I have some food I can give you if you would like.”

Now came the tragedy. He immediately turned his back on me, on the food, and, tragically, and most importantly, on the Lord Jesus Christ. As soon as he knew he would not get the money he wanted, he was done.

Friend, we should absolutely give whatever physical resources the Lord leads us to give to whomever He calls us to give whenever He calls us to give. I personally very rarely give money because it is often spent on drugs, alcohol, cigarettes, etc. I do my best to give when and as the Lord leads me whether it be clothes, food, water, blankets, other material items, etc.

Most importantly, I keep my heart and eyes ever open to the opportunity as the Holy Spirit leads me to give to people the Good News of the Lord Jesus Christ as well as love, hope, help, and encouragement in not only believing in Him as Lord but in following Him day by day as Lord.

Sometimes the response to this most vital giving is beautiful, wonderful, exciting, humbling, blessed, and encouraging. Other times it is totally tragic. Like when I experienced the two-minute tragedy about which I write.

Truly, there is no greater tragedy in this universe than that people turn their backs on the Lord, that they reject Him, that they refuse to repent and believe in Him and in His death and resurrection, that they refuse to turn from their sins and to turn to God and His ways forevermore, that they spend forever in hell and the lake of fire in eternal torment apart from God because they refused to humble themselves and surrender their hearts and lives to the Lord forever and ever.

The man that came to my car wanted a few dollars that would have bought him something that would last for probably minutes. He emphatically turned his back on hearing about the Lord Jesus Christ whose love, mercy, grace, truth, hope, joy, peace, fellowship, Lordship, sovereignty, power, passion, compassion, forgiveness, and kindness are everlasting for those who turn to Him and receive and follow Him as Lord!

I plead with you with every ounce of my heart that if you are a follower of the Lord Jesus Christ that you take the love, time, and care on a regular basis to help others to commit their lives to Him and to follow Him day by day. And I beg you with every ounce of my heart if you have not yet repented and committed your life to the Lord that you do so before another minute goes by because one day it will be too late and there will be no turning back from indescribable torment in fiery hell and the lake of fire.

Please don’t be part of the tragedy of countless people worldwide living with their backs turned against the Lord. Be part of the blessed matchless wondrous gift and privilege of receiving Christ as Lord, living totally devoted to Him, and helping others to do the same!

I love this powerful verse about people worldwide humbling themselves before God almighty! If it would only be so! Oh, let it be so! Not everyone ultimately will commit their lives to Christ, but may you and I not be part of the tragedy! Let us be part of the blessedness and awesomeness of being in the Lord’s forever presence and of aiding others to be also!

“Let all the earth fear the LORD: let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him.” Psalms 33:8

This story below encourages me to remember no physical provision will ever measure up to the love, salvation, and healing of the Lord!

“Now Peter and John went up together into the temple at the hour of prayer, being the ninth hour. And a certain man lame from his mother’s womb was carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, to ask alms of them that entered into the temple; Who seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple asked an alms. And Peter, fastening his eyes upon him with John, said, Look on us. And he gave heed unto them, expecting to receive something of them. Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk. And he took him by the right hand, and lifted him up: and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength. And he leaping up stood, and walked, and entered with them into the temple, walking, and leaping, and praising God. And all the people saw him walking and praising God:” Acts 3:1-9
