Unworthy
“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:” Romans 3:23-24
“For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.” 2 Cor. 5:21
How sad I was one day as I read the wonderful true story of a boy God used to help a massive number of kids in dire straits. The testimony was awesome, and the boy with the assistance of an experienced adult writer had done a fine job of writing the book. But he shared something in his book that saddened me because of how untrue it is in God’s eyes and His Word and because of how many adults in this me-centered, I-deserve, entitlement-oriented world may believe the same. He said we are worthy of God’s love. But we’re NOT worthy of God’s love – not ever!
If any of us were worthy of God’s love, Jesus Christ would not have needed to die on the cross to bear God’s wrath at us for our sins upon Himself and to pay the resulting death and hell penalty we all deserve because of our sins. God’s Truth is that we are ALL sinners ALL worthy of death and hell forever apart from God because as sinners we can’t be in the presence of a perfectly holy and righteous God. There is NOTHING we can do to EVER measure up to God and to earn His love, forgiveness, mercy, grace, and eternal life with Him. There is NOTHING we can do to EVER be worthy of His love. We are UNWORTHY of His love! Jesus paid the price for us so if we genuinely repent of our sins, turn from the world’s ways and turn unto God, place our hope and trust in Christ and learn to live according to God’s ways, we are forgiven by God and enter into an eternal relationship with Him by receiving the righteousness of God through Christ.
Does God love us? Yes! He loves us despite the fact we’re UNWORTHY because He created us. He loves us so much that He wants us to be in a relationship with Him forever. He sent His only begotten Son to the cross so that though we are UNWORTHY and don’t deserve His love and fellowship, we are invited through a life committed to Christ to receive His love and to be in His presence forever. It’s only when we humbly confess our sins in our UNWORTH, believe in the righteousness of God in Christ, and turn and devote our lives to God that we can be with Him forever. Not because of our UNWORTH. Because the Lord is forever worthy!
Have you in your unworthiness received Christ’s righteousness by repenting, believing in Him, and committing to follow Him forever?
