The Lord tells us in the Bible to sacrifice our bodies to Him as service to Him, and our mouths and what we do with them are most definitely included in His call to surrender ourselves to Him. A beloved friend one day shared a story in which the Lord had led her to Psalm 145 after which I felt led to revisit the Psalm myself. The Holy Spirit opened my eyes to something quite remarkable, convicting, and most assuredly inspiring. Please consider the Lord’s call for us to yield our bodies to Him before I share with you what He revealed to me in Psalm 145:
“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.” Romans 12:1
Now in Psalm 145, if I am counting correctly, I see 22 – yes, 22 – references to call upon, cry out to, praise, thank, sing to, make known, tell others about, and glorify the Lord! Talk about the right way to use our mouths in love for and service to the Lord!
My friend, what are you and I doing with our mouths day in and day out? Long ago, I heard references made to mothers telling their children to wash their mouths out to essentially rid their children of anything foul, wrong, disrespectful, dishonoring, negative, etc. coming out of their children’s mouths.
Friend, we should all examine our hearts, minds, mouths, and lives before the Lord on an ongoing basis and repent of anything dishonoring and disobedient to God and that does not bring Him glory, honor, thanksgiving, love, joy, and praise! Then we should resolve going forth to use our whole bodies mouths included to love, honor, serve, and glorify God forever and ever, AMEN!
Please note I have used BOLD to show where I found the 22 references to use of the mouth for the glory of the Lord! Hallelujah! Thank the Lord for what He showed me and now has compelled me to share with you! Glory be to the Lord! Hallelujah, yes, praise the Lord, AMEN!
“I will extol thee, my God, O king; and I will bless thy name for ever and ever. Every day will I bless thee; and I will praise thy name for ever and ever. Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised; and his greatness is unsearchable. One generation shall praise thy works to another, and shall declare thy mighty acts. I will speak of the glorious honour of thy majesty, and of thy wondrous works. And men shall speak of the might of thy terrible acts: and I will declare thy greatness. They shall abundantly utter the memory of thy great goodness, and shall sing of thy righteousness. The LORD is gracious, and full of compassion; slow to anger, and of great mercy. The LORD is good to all: and his tender mercies are over all his works. All thy works shall praise thee, O LORD; and thy saints shall bless thee. They shall speak of the glory of thy kingdom, and talk of thy power; To make known to the sons of men his mighty acts, and the glorious majesty of his kingdom. Thy kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and thy dominion endureth throughout all generations. The LORD upholdeth all that fall, and raiseth up all those that be bowed down. The eyes of all wait upon thee; and thou givest them their meat in due season. Thou openest thine hand, and satisfiest the desire of every living thing. The LORD is righteous in all his ways, and holy in all his works. The LORD is nigh unto all them that call upon him, to all that call upon him in truth. He will fulfil the desire of them that fear him: he also will hear their cry, and will save them. The LORD preserveth all them that love him: but all the wicked will he destroy. My mouth shall speak the praise of the LORD: and let all flesh bless his holy name for ever and ever.” Psalms 145:1-21
