WALKING BY FAITH

“For we walk by faith, not by sight.” (2 Corinthians 5:7 KJV)

When the Lord gave me the name Walk by Faith Ministry for the work He had called me to do, I had no idea where He would take me in my own personal journey with Him nor with the ministry in the ensuing years. Little did I know He would be teaching me to walk by faith at the very same time He would be using me to teach and encourage others to do the same.

The Lord taught me early in my walk with Him that the faith walk involves learning how to live according to my faith in Jesus Christ and what the Bible teaches rather than according to what I see and hear and feel and taste and smell in the world around me. I needed to crucify my human flesh and learn to be led by His Holy Spirit.

As my long-time pastor taught me, I needed to get the “WORD” into me and the “WORLD” out of me. In other words, I needed to learn to live contrary to the opinions, the attitudes, the teachings, and the ways of the world. Instead, I needed to learn to live according to the ways of the Lord as the Bible teaches.

Walking by faith all looked well and good in the pages of my Bible, and it all sounded well and good when it was preached to me. It even sounded well and good when I talked about it, and it looked well and good when I wrote about it. Enough said.

But learning to walk by faith has been an entirely different story. In fact, it has been a process – a long, slow process.

I have needed strong teaching, encouragement, endurance, perseverance, and patience. I have needed love, mercy, forgiveness, strength, and so much more. But where would I get it? I have gotten everything I needed from the Lord, and oftentimes through the people He has sent to help me learn how to walk.

Over and again, He has taken me into the pages of His Word to teach me – and then back into my daily life to learn how to apply it.

There were days – and years – in which I couldn’t imagine ever being more than a baby. Even when I learned to crawl, I couldn’t fathom moving past the crawling stage. When I began to stand, I fell so often that I often didn’t want to get back up again. And sometimes I didn’t – at least for a while! When I started to put one foot in front of the other, I faltered. I tripped. I fell. Again. Again. How frustrated I was! How discouraged I was! How much I wanted to quit! How would I ever be able to go the distance – or any distance at all? If only I could give up. And sometimes I did – for a season. But up I rose again, determined!

And all along, there was only one constant – but it was the most important constant of all. When I looked before me – by faith, not by sight – I saw the Lord. He was – and is – my constant. He was – and is – what never changes. He was – and is – always there. Always loving, always forgiving, always giving, always teaching me, always satisfying my hunger for HIM.

With outstretched arms, He beckoned me. With His beautiful smile, He beckoned me. With His heart aflame with love for me, He beckoned me. With His promise of eternal life, He beckoned me. With His Word, He beckoned me. With His healing, He beckoned me. With His mercy, He beckoned me. With His forgiveness, He beckoned me. He never stopped beckoning me.

And still He calls; still He beckons me. Always forward, always closer to Him. He calls me to walk by faith, not by sight. No matter my hurdles, challenges, circumstances, situations, hurts, bruises, wounds, when I look with eyes of my faith to my Lord, I see the Lord beckoning me – like the perfect Father He is.

The perfect Father. Teaching His daughter to walk. He beckons.

And I answer.

I answer this.

Lord God, you have taught me how to walk. At last! Still I stumble sometimes, and still I fall. But more than anything now, Lord, I walk. How can I thank you but to ask you this. Please, my Lord, will you use me to help teach and encourage others to walk? Amen.

WHEREVER YOU ARE IN YOUR WALK BY FAITH, WHETHER YOU HAVE NOT BEGUN, WHETHER YOU ARE CRAWLING, WHETHER YOU STUMBLE AND FALL, WHETHER YOU ARE STANDING, NO MATTER HOW FAR YOU HAVE WALKED, PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF I THERE IS ANYTHING I CAN DO FOR YOU.

BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY, WHETHER OR NOT YOU REACH OUT TO ME TO ENCOURAGE YOU IN YOUR WALK WITH THE LORD, PLEASE DO THIS.

ANSWER HIS CALL. HE BECKONS………
