Do You Want Me to Do Anything, God?

“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind.” James 1:5-6

“Do you want me to do anything?” I asked the Lord.

“Yes. I want you to do nothing,” the Spirit of God spoke.

I had been seeking Him about a particular matter concerning something I had prayed my heart out to Him about for such a very long time, and it looked like He was on the verge of answering my prayers. Now I wanted to know what I should do. Surely I needed to get involved. To do something. To get in the middle of what He was doing to lend a helping hand. To be used by Him. To bring His answer to my prayers to pass. Right?

Not so!

The Lord wanted me to do NOTHING.

In this busy, busy, busy world in which we are taught to do, do, do, achieve, achieve, achieve, accomplish, accomplish, accomplish, to do things in our own human “strength”, we can foolishly and falsely believe that the Lord always has something for us TO DO, and that WE KNOW WHAT IS BEST, and that we should JUMP IN AND DO DO DO. But sometimes the very thing the Lord wants us to do is to simply love Him, trust Him, and patiently wait for HIM TO DO what HE WANTS TO DO because HE KNOWS WHAT IS BEST and how to BRING IT TO PASS whether or not He chooses to involve us regardless of when and how. Sometimes OUR DOING is actually INTERFERING and even BLOCKING or DELAYING God’s will because WE GET IN THE WAY of the Lord’s loving and sovereign perfect plan.

Sometimes we in our sins of PRIDE, SELFISHNESS, FEAR, WORRY, LACK OF TRUST IN GOD, etc. JUMP IN TO DO SOMETHING in certain situations, relationships, opportunities, etc. when the Lord wants us to DO NOTHING at least for the time being until He gives us further instructions if He has anything ultimately for us to do at all, and we need to PUT OUR HOPE, TRUST, FAITH, and OUR VERY SELVES into HIS HOLY PERFECT BLESSED HANDS and DO NOTHING until and unless He tells us otherwise, fully trusting His Spirit to lead us.

Before you jump into something, or if you’ve already jumped in, SEEK THE LORD, WAIT ON THE LORD, LISTEN FOR THE LORD, HEAR THE LORD, and OBEY THE LORD whether He has something for you to do or simply tells you to DO NOTHING as He unfolds His perfect plan the way He desires so He is glorified!
