“And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God; I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth… As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.” Revelation 3:15-19
Is the Lord speaking to you in the verses above? He wasn’t just speaking to believers in Him back then. He is speaking to some, if not many, of us now who profess to believe in Christ. Are you included in this warning? This warning is dire. Jesus is telling us He will vomit out those who are lukewarm. With this warning comes a call to repentance. A command to acknowledge and admit our wrongdoing and to seek forgiveness and change direction. A turn back to God.
Do you have fire for the Lord? Passion for Him? Excitement about Him? Exceeding interest in Him? Zeal for Him? Longing for Him? Excessive hunger and thirst for Him? Do you crave to know Him, to learn of Him, to learn from Him, to be with Him, to grow like Him, to love Him, purposefully, devotedly, to obey Him, to be changed by Him, to be conformed to His image, to be in His presence, to experience His fellowship, to hear from Him, to praise Him, to worship Him, to talk to Him, to pray to Him, to seek Him, to tell the world about Him, to experience His love, to love Him more and more in return, to humble yourself before Him, to yield to Him, to purify yourself for Him, to be purified by Him, to bring Him honor, to bring Him joy, to please Him and bring Him pleasure, to be still in His presence, to learn to rest in Him, to grow in trusting Him, to be as close to Him as you can possibly be, for His Spirit to dwell in you, to serve Him, to be a vessel of Him, to shine with His light, to be so filled with Him the world around Him sees you not Him, ever less of you and ever more of Him, to die to your selfish ways and desires to live for Him because He is your number one desire, your number one love, your number one priority, because He is your Lord, Lord of all, King of Kings, the One you yearn to be with forever?
Is this not the fire He desires? The love He yearns for us to have? The obedience He wants from us? The forever fellowship He offers us when we devote our lives utterly to Him as our Savior AND Lord?
This is a warning from the Lord – and a call to repent of being lukewarm and to devote ourselves wholly and passionately to Him forever. To be on fire for Him. Repentance is acknowledging our sins with genuine sorrow and a desire to be forgiven and a true turn toward God and His ways with fruit in our lives showing we’ve turned. Is God calling you to repentance?
