What If You Had No Fear?

2
What would you do in a single day of your life if you lived it without any fear whatsoever? God tells us in the Bible over 300 times to not fear, yet most of us if we are utterly honest have lived with various levels of fear – sometimes to the point of being entirely unable to do what we would like to do, and sometimes unable to do what God has called us here to do. I have had so much fear in my life, and yet much of the time I did not even realize I was walking with fear instead of walking by faith. So I ask myself, and I ask you, what would you do in a 24-hour period if you had no fear whatsoever?

So often, I have heard people quote the well-known scripture in the Bible, “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” (2 Tim. 1:7 KJV) Interestingly, I have rarely, if ever, heard it quoted in the context of the scriptures from which it comes. In context, Paul is calling Christ’s followers to use the gift God has given them and to be bold in sharing Christ regardless of what consequences may come. He continues by saying we have been called by Christ according to His grace and for His glory, not according to our works. He calls our calling a holy calling. So why has the Lord called us to live without fear? Is it for own own selfish ends, or is it for His glory?

I believe the Lord calls us to walk by faith for two reasons. First, He wants us to love and serve Him and His Creation. Second, He wants us to live an abundant life rather than the limited lives we live when we walk in fear and thereby open the door for Satan to steal what belongs to us. So I ask again, what would your life look like in a single day if you lived it without fear? What would you do differently? What would you say differently? Where would you go? To whom would you talk? How would you treat others? What would you hold onto? What would you give away? How would your life be different than it is now?

Do you believe in a 24-hour period without fear that you would love and serve the Lord in an entirely new way? Do you believe in that 24-hour period without fear that you would live an abundant life that you are not now living?

I have heard a well-known preacher say that living without fear does not necessarily mean that we will not feel  fear, but simply that we will make decisions, take actions, etc., in spite of it.

I would like to get to the point where I learn to live without even feeling it, but in the meantime I aspire to learn to live my life without responding to it – as though it did not even exist.

So how would my life be different? Without fear, I would love. Without fear, I would follow God’s call on my life without hesitating. Without fear, I would feel so much better! Without fear, I would give so much more. Without fear, I believe I would have a much deeper relationship with the Lord. This is but a bare beginning, but I can tell you one thing. I do not want to merely try to live one 24-hour period without fear. I want to truly learn to walk by faith – and to live the life God has called me to live.

2Ti 1:6  “Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands.
2Ti 1:7  For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
2Ti 1:8  Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God;
2Ti 1:9  Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,….”
