“I don’t know where to begin,” I told the Lord regarding something absolutely enormous He had made clear He wanted me to do.
Maybe some people can handle really enormous things easily. I cannot even handle easy things easily! I can get pretty easily overwhelmed with just about anything! And in my life and ministry, God has given me plenty of what I would call enormous things to do!
Now there I was right back in the position for the umpteenth time of facing something enormous the Lord Jesus Christ had given me to do!
The Lord had a simple response when I told Him I did not even know where to begin!
“Pray!” His Holy Spirit spoke simply to my heart.
Of course! I needed to pray to get started! Oh, how I needed that reminder! I tend to jump into things quite quickly – with my flesh. Thinking somehow I will muster up what I need to get through whatever it is I have to do and whatever it is I face. Now God was reminding me to get started by praying!
Oh, but that was not all!
“Pray your way all the way through,” the Holy Spirit spoke to me.
Wow! What an incredible and exceedingly vital message!
If you are anything like I am, perhaps you get started when God gives you something enormous to do or with anything for that matter by praying at the start. But then you go barreling forward in the flesh and for whatever reason neglect to pray along the way at worst or at best simply toss up a couple of prayers to God in heaven when you are feeling especially desperate.
The Lord that day gave me some wonderful wisdom.
TO BEGIN WITH PRAYER – and TO CONTINUE WITH PRAYER. To PRAY ALL THE WAY THROUGH!
Please consider these three truths concerning when God gives us enormous things to do:
- We need to HUMBLE OURSELVES and acknowledge we need God from start to finish of what He has called us to do! A prideful heart foolishly believes God and praying to Him are not necessary. A humble heart PRAYS!
- God WANTS TO LOVE, GUIDE, CARE FOR, EMPOWER, and PROVIDE for His children!
- God wants us to “PRAY WITHOUT CEASING”!
Please note this message is about when God gives us enormous things to do. But God’s desire for us to humble ourselves and PRAY, His desire to love, guide, care for, empower, and provide for us, and His desire for us to “PRAY WITHOUT CEASING” are truths for His followers AT ALL TIMES.
Whether or not you are facing something enormous God has called you to do, pray, pray, pray! Cry out to God! Pray! And keep on praying! Amen!
“pray without ceasing,” 1 Thessalonians 5:17 NKJV
“Continue earnestly in prayer, being vigilant in it with thanksgiving;” Colossians 4:2 NKJV
