When God Rains on Your Parade

0
Did you ever notice how God has a way of ruining your plans? Maybe He doesn’t do that to you, but I have plenty of experience watching God rain on my parade, so to speak. I just finished writing and sending off to the printer a little publication that is absolutely the very last thing in the world that I would ever dreamed of writing and publishing, but God saw fit to rain on countless plans and dreams of mine through the years. Why? Because He has had plans of His own. Not just any old plans. But His plans. HIS plans. Yes, GOD’S plans. Shockingly, I have learned to be grateful for when His will comes to pass instead of my own, and for when He casts my plans to the side in favor of His own. But why?

Because God ALWAYS knows what He is doing. His plans are ALWAYS better than mine. He ALWAYS knows best. He ALWAYS can see the whole picture when I can ALWAYS see only part. And when He rains on my parade, so to speak, He has a reason. I used to throw a two-year-old tantrum every time I didn’t get my way when it comes to the Lord, and quite frankly I am still entirely capable of doing just that. But more often that not these days, I am finding myself thankful that God knows when to send the rain on my parade. And when I don’t find myself being thankful, and I am convicted that I have fallen back into self pity and complaining (both of which I am way too well versed in), I remember to repent and to remember how blessed I am. Why? Because when God chooses to rain on my parade, He is reminding me of who needs to reign in my life. He does. For He is God!

‘For I know the plans that I have for you,’ declares the LORD, ‘plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope. Jeremiah 29:11 NASB

The Lord [a]reigns, let the earth rejoice;
Let the many [b]islands be glad.
Clouds and thick darkness surround Him;
Righteousness and justice are the foundation of His throne.
Fire goes before Him
And burns up His adversaries round about.
His lightnings lit up the world;
The earth saw and trembled.
The mountains melted like wax at the presence of the Lord,
At the presence of the Lord of the whole earth.
The heavens declare His righteousness,
And all the peoples have seen His glory. Psalm 97:1-6 NASB

in everything give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. 1 Thessalonians 5:18 NASB
