If you leave something or someone IN OBEDIENCE TO GOD, in other words you have prayed and read the Bible and sought godly counsel as needed and left in surrender to the Lord Jesus Christ and His will for you, do not be surprised if your flesh is tempted to go back where you came from. Whether the person, place, or thing you walked away from was wonderful or terrible, easy or hard, long-term or short-term, no matter the circumstances, you may be tempted to return simply because it was familiar, because that is what you knew, because there were benefits, because you are afraid of the unfamiliar of going forward, because people are pressuring you to go back, because the devil is trying to lure you back, etc. If this is the case, I have a warning for you – and encouragement to go with it!
The warning? Please do NOT go back if God has made clear He wants you to go forward not backward. Please humbly and faithfully follow God!
The encouragement? No matter how hard and challenging and new and scary and different and unfamiliar and uncomfortable and daunting and intimidating and overwhelming it may be to go forward following God not back, IF YOU CRY OUT TO GOD, IF YOU PRAY TO HIM WITH ALL YOUR HEART, He will give you all you need to keep moving ahead.
I encourage you to pray, pray, pray and follow the Lord as His Holy Spirit who lives in His followers leads you and empowers and enables you to go forth!
I also encourage you to reach out to other Jesus followers to encourage and help and pray for you as you lovingly and devotedly follow Jesus down the pathway He lovingly, graciously, and mercifully sets before you!
I love the following verse because it is such an encouragement to me that God provides all we need to live a godly life!
“as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue,” 2 Peter 1:3-4 NKJV
And I love this well known verse because it is a wonderful and powerful reminder that we CAN do what God calls us to do – THROUGH JESUS! For the glory of Christ, AMEN!
“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Philippians 4:13 NKJV
