Have you ever considered where the devil gets his travel plans? Where does he book his flights, and where does he unpack his luggage? Where does he eat his meals, and where does he tour new destinations? Did you ever think about how the devil lands where he does to do what he does? Who is his travel agent anyway? When I look at my own life, the answer is plain and clear.
The devil goes where he is welcome. The devil goes where he is not turned away. The devil goes where there is a vacancy. The devil goes wherever there is space to receive him. The devil is his own travel agent, and he goes to the very best of destinations – the exact places where we allow him. How do I know? I can take one look at my life and see.
The devil has a single mission – to kill, steal, and destroy (John 10:10 KJV). And he will try to accomplish his mission however, wherever, and whenever he can. So why does he keep arriving at my doorstep? Why does he keep getting into my mind? Why does he keep wreaking havoc in my life? Simple.
When I let the devil speak to me, when I listen to his voice, when I believe his lies, when I allow him to set up shop in my mind and life, when I allow him to intimidate me, when I follow him instead of the Lord, when I give place to him – boom. All hell breaks lose. And whose fault is that? Mine!
Sadly, I have quite a bit of experience with this. Happily, I realize it. Gratefully, I understand that I don’t need to live the rest of my life allowing this to happen. Just because the devil likes to book tickets to my destination does not mean I need to allow him to visit, let alone allow him to stay.
What can I do about the devil’s travel plans? I can apply God’s Word to my life. The Lord is more than happy to offer instruction on how to avoid what I have experienced for so much of my life – even recently. How recent have I experienced this? Today. Over and again. Yesterday. And the day before also.
If the truth be told, I am quite certain I am not alone in allowing myself to be a tour destination for the devil. But there is good news. In fact, there is Good News. Because of Jesus Christ, because of my faith in Him, and because of the Word of God, I have the option to hang a sign upon the door of my heart and life:
“No Vacancies.”
