Which Way Are You Facing?

4
Which way are you facing? Are your heart and face turned toward the Lord and to His Word, or do you have your back facing Him as you worship other gods? Is your trust in Him, or is your trust in alcohol, drugs, sex, food, friends, television, anorexia, pornography, prescription drug abuse, your job, money and wealth, whatever, whomever, living with your boyfriend or girlfriend, prostitution, adultery, even yourself? Are you seeking God daily in His Word and as you spend quiet time with Him, or are you seeking the things and people of this world? God makes it utterly clear in the second chapter of the book of Jeremiah that those of us who place our trust in our false gods have a tendency to then turn to Him in our times of trouble to help us, and He asks us a question that is convicting beyond measure.

Won’t our false gods save us? God asks. He already knows the answer. So should we. Of course our false gods can’t save us! Yet for those of us whose hearts and lives are riddled with sin as we live with our backs turned to God, how can we have the audacity to then cry out to Him to meet our needs in our desperate times without even bothering to repent of our sins and place our faith in Christ as Lord?

Our world is falling apart, and so are many of our hearts and lives as we turn increasingly to worshiping the gods of this world. The world will one day come to an end, perhaps sooner than we think. Which way will be facing then? Heaven or hell? If you have been hedging about repenting of your sins and placing your faith in Christ, hedge no longer. Because one of these days it will be too late. A hard message, isn’t it? But I would rather you hate me for telling you the Truth about God than have you love me and know that you’ll spend eternity in hell. So I will take the risk of losing your friendship with the hope that you will make the necessary turn. Repent of your sins and turn your face to the Lord God almighty. And stay facing Him. And should you at times find yourself facing the wrong way again, repent and turn back to Him. Jesus Christ died on the cross to pay the penalty for our sins, and our job is to repent and believe in Him, and to commit to follow Him by studying the Bible and learning to live according to the ways of the Lord. Facing Him with our backs to the ways of this world. If you’re already living your life facing the Lord, with your heart and life dedicated to Him, take the love, time, and care to help others to turn to face Him also. Turn, turn, turn. Turn toward the Lord!
