Just who do you think you’re calling quirky? Come on already, you’ve got to be kidding me. You call yourself a loving sister in Christ, and you have the nerve – I mean, the NERVE – to call me QUIRKY? Okay, my amazing, awesome, phenomenal friend and sister in the Lord said my WRITING is QUIRKY. But still, the nerve of her. Right?!
Wrong! In all actuality, I couldn’t be more humbled, more privileged, and more blessed to receive such a compliment. It wasn’t so very long ago that I felt hurt, and wounded, and rejected, and criticized, judged, and condemned for being different, for acting different, for looking different, for seeming different, and for anything different at all.
But after decades of struggling with my different-ness (not that there is such a word, mind you), I have finally come to accept that I am not only different. I was created to be different. And, though I might not fit the mold of the world, I am a vessel that was fearfully and wonderfully made in the heart, and in the hands, of the Master Potter – the Lord God almighty.
And, rather than try to write, and to look, and to seem, and to act, and to live, in such a way that is pleasing and accepting to the world around me, my desire is to write, and to look, and to seem, and to act, and to live, in such a way that is pleasing to my Father – the Lord God almighty.
Quirky? Yes. Not so long ago I might have been hurt by this description. But today, I am honored. For the truth is not only that my writing is quirky. But I, too, am quirky. I just don’t fit the mold of the world. And I am no longer disappointed about this. I no longer desire to please the world. I no longer desire to fear man.
I desire to fear God – to love Him, to reverence Him, to be in awe of Him, and to obey Him. And I desire to be the woman, and the daughter to Him, that He created me to be.
Quirky and all.
Do you live to please the world, or do you live to please the Lord? Do you try to look and act like the world around you? Or do you remember that we are created in His image? When you make decisions, do you make them according to your own desires or to those of the world around you? Or do you make them based on God’s will for your life? Do you desire to be the man, the woman, or the child God has created you to be? Or do you desire to be conformed to the world? Is your loyalty to the world, or is your loyalty to God? Do you fear man, or do you fear the Lord? For whom do you live?
Perhaps these questions are new to you; perhaps not. Maybe you have considered them. Or prayed about them. Or maybe they are new to you. Why not spend some time with the Lord and ask Him to show you the answers?
With answers in hand, and the Lord in your heart, why not ask Him to transform you by the power of His Holy Spirit and by His Word to be more like Him?
Gen_1:26 “And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.”
Rom 12:2 “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”
Psa_139:14 “I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.”
