Yummy Distractions

Did you ever notice how tasty and delicious distractions are? They can look good, sound good, feel good, and taste good, can’t they? But they do have an intention, you know. They aim to distract. Seems pretty obvious, huh? But that’s the thing about distractions, isn’t it? They oftentimes don’t look like distractions at all. They often look perfectly reasonable, and seem perfectly acceptable. But how reasonable, and how acceptable, can they really be when we go running and leaping and scurrying and hopping and chasing after them only to discover we have veered away from the Lord and from His will for us?

a good reminder to not look to the right or left…….

Oh, how easily we can justify ourselves – or try to anyway – as we find ourselves on a high speed chase after our distractions. Isn’t it something how when we crash and burn, or fall flat on our faces, or miss opportunities and blessings from the Lord, or stick the umpteenth band-aid on our distractions-induced injuries, how we come to our senses and realize, or remember, that we were not created to follow after distractions. We were created to follow after Jesus.

God tells us in His Word not to look to the right or the left, but to keep our focus on Him and on His Word.

If you find yourself distracted right now, no matter how yummy and delicious the distraction, or maybe how not yummy or delicious at all the distraction, turn away from the distraction(s) and turn back to the Lord.

Only be thou strong and very courageous, that thou mayest observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded thee: turn not from it to the right hand or to the left, that thou mayest prosper whithersoever thou goest. Joshua 1:7 NASB
