Pretending something isn’t there doesn’t mean it’s not there. But this message isn’t about pretending WHAT isn’t there. It’s about pretending WHOM isn’t there. And it’s about blocking them out. Pretending WHOM isn’t there? Blocking WHOM out? All the people all around us, all around this world in fact, both near and far, as close as those living with us or next door or at our workplaces or sitting on the street corner as we pass by, to people so far away we will likely never meet them in person. Pretending? Blocking out? What do I mean?
Tragic to say we can be so consumed with ourselves, with our own little lives, with our loved ones, with our jobs, hobbies, interests, loves, dreams, passions, desires, needs, circles of friends, church congregations, children, grandchildren, significant others, schools, homeless shelter buddies, cellmates, agendas, plans, goals, dogs, farms, favorite restaurants, ballgames, etc. that we pretend there isn’t a world in dire need around us or forget about it or are too busy to notice it and block out the very people God calls us to love, to serve, to give to, to help, to support, to encourage, to pray for, to share the Gospel message with, to help to follow Jesus, to befriend, to be kind to, to fellowship with, to reach out to, to give hope to, etc.
What if today, and every day to come for the rest of your life, you determined to keep your heart, eyes, and ears wide open to all the opportunities the Lord gives you each and every day to cross paths in one way or another with a world in need? And what if you resolved to not pretend people in need aren’t there, and refused to block them out, or to overlook or forget about them, but instead made it a priority in life to seek and follow the Lord each and every time He leads you to share His love and to do anything He desires you to do in the lives of all to whom He calls you who are in need?
Oh, friend, LOVE! LOVE with the love of Jesus! Please don’t look away from a world in need to live for self! Believe in and follow and live for and look to Jesus Christ as Lord and love and serve others in His name as the Holy Spirit of God who lives inside His followers so leads you, AMEN!
“Then the King will say to those on His right hand, ‘Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.’ “Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You drink? When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or naked and clothe You? Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?’ And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.’” Matthew 25:34-40
