Jesus’ Self-Pity

Right in the midst of the Lord dealing with me about making sure to get rid of every single ounce of self-pity every time it raises its ugly head in my heart, words, and actions, He brought to mind how much self-pity the Lord Jesus Christ had in His lifetime on this earth and particularly when He went to the cross. Ever considered how often Jesus felt sorry for Himself for all He endured on this earth, for everything He went through getting to the cross, and for all He bore upon Himself upon the cross when He took all the world’s sins, all of God’s wrath at all of humanity for all our sins, and the punishment of separation from God, death, hell, and the lake of fire before He was raised from the dead?

Friend, the Lord Jesus Christ had NO self-pity NOT EVER. Never once in the Bible have I ever seen a single word used to describe Jesus feeling sorry for Himself and trying to get others to feel sorry for Him.

Self-pity is sin against God and needs to be purged and repented of whenever we see we have fallen into it. We were created in God’s image, are to be conformed to the image of Christ, and as such are not to feel sorry for ourselves. God’s greatest commands are to love Him with all our hearts and others as ourselves, and when we are feeling sorry for ourselves we are consumed with ourselves instead.

I confess to you I have a long way to go with this as I’ve had a lifetime of struggles and can fall into self-pity in a heartbeat if I’m not careful. Thank God for His mercy that when we do fall into sin, we can repent and turn back to Him!

Self-pity, be gone! Hallelujah! Amen!

“For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren.” Romans 8:29
