“And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ.” Col. 3:23-24
I can’t speak for others, you included, but I sure can speak for myself. Sometimes I’m called to do stuff for others, whether it’s for people or even for the sweet special needs dogs in my care, that I just don’t want to do. As much as the Lord has blessed me with a servant’s hear, sometimes especially when I’m tired the last thing in the world I feel like doing is serving. The Lord in these verses gives us a wonderful way out of serving, right? Not at all. He doesn’t tell us not to serve at those times. But He tells us to consider serving in this way. With the right heart. With the right attitude. With the thinking that WE ARE SERVING CHRIST in serving others. No matter what we do in our everyday lives, no matter to what and to whom the Lord has called us in the way of doing and serving, the right attitude is to be thankful, to be joyful, and to consider that we’re not simply doing what we’re doing to serve the world around us. We’re serving JESUS! I don’t know about you, but for me this puts the idea – and the sometimes challenge – of serving in a whole new light. The light of the Lord Jesus Christ! It makes me excited and thankful to keep on serving. Because I can’t think of a greater privilege when it comes to how I live my life than to love and serve in the name of and for the glory of Christ! AMEN!
