“If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!” Luke 11:13
Why is it that when we pray to God that some of us tend to ask Him for some things but miss asking Him for the greatest things of all? We are so prone to asking for physical things, aren’t we? For the material and tangible. For the stuff we can see, touch, taste, feel, etc. To get more. To have more. To feel better. To be stronger. For someone to love. To love someone. Nothing wrong with asking for any of this, is there? But what if we were to ask for the very most important of all? For the very best of all? The best gifts ever are God Himself, a forever relationship with Him, His Holy Spirit who lives inside His followers, and His Word, the Bible. All His followers are sealed with the Holy Spirit who comes to live inside those who turn from their sins and believe in Christ as Lord. But we can go even further than this and ask Him to fill us with His Spirit including the courage and boldness and power and gifts of His Spirit necessary for helping to build His forever Kingdom by spreading the Gospel message and helping people to find and follow Jesus. We can ask for more and more of God’s Spirit, we can be filled and re-filled with more of the Spirit of Christ. We can have more and more of God living in and through us!
