A Joyful Little Tail………!

When Freckles was rescued by an animal control officer in the Midwest some years ago, the officer refused to bring him to the shelter. He knew Freckles would probably be euthanized, especially given his degloved toes that needed surgery.

Freckles with his mom and dad at their assisted living facility !!

The animal control officer released Freckles to a rescue worker, and, when last I heard, would possibly lose his job over helping to save Freckles’ life. Freckles, with his new lease on life, boarded a two-seated private plane (with a changeover onto another plane) and headed off for Virginia where I lived at the time.

But God apparently had another destination for Freckles in mind, for nobody in Virginia adopted him. So Freckles moved again. He joined me and the other Walk by Faith Ministry “canine kids” when I moved to South Carolina nearly three years ago. Freckles was adopted, and then returned. Then Freckles was adopted again.

This time, he was adopted by a loving senior couple who somehow managed to keep up with his beagle, nose-to-the-ground, pull-on-the-leash-to-the-umpteenth-degree antics. And, at long last, Freckles breathed a sigh of happy beagle relief and settled into what was believed to be his final home with this lovely couple.

Alas, not too long ago in a follow-up call to check on Freckles, I learned that the couple had moved into an assisted living facility with Freckles. Imagine that. A formerly stray dog from the freezing cold streets of Ohio living it up with his human mom and dad and all their fellow seniors in an assisted living facility in hot, sunny, South Carolina – the perfect place for retirement.

Unfortunately, Freckles’ human mom and dad were having increasing difficulty walking him – especially given his continued beagle antics. And in a short period of time at their new location, it became increasingly difficult to find help to walk Freckles. Not to mention, their location on the third floor of the residence posed an extra challenge.

Little did anyone know how the Lord would provide a happily-ever-ending to the story. Anyone who knows me realizes fairly quickly that I don’t tend to do things by the world’s standards. So rather than simply return Freckles to Walk by Faith Ministry and look for a family to adopt him, I prayed. And the Lord’s answer was absolutely perfect.

Why should Freckles lose his mom and dad just because of their situation? And why should the loving couple lose their “little boy” just because of their move into assisted living? God’s answer? Freckles lives on the property of myself and Walk by Faith Ministry. I am his God-mommie. His mom and dad are still exactly that. His parents. They have become monthly sponsors of Walk by Faith Ministry, and pay for his veterinary care when he needs it.

And, each week, I pile Freckles into the car and drive him off for a visit with his parents. Does he love his visits? Do they love his visits? Doesn’t the photograph say it all?

How’s that for a Joyful Little Tail……….?
