A NEW WAY TO PRAY !
When was the last time you prayed for your CHARACTER? I didn’t ask if you’ve been praying for sick people, praying about your finances, praying for your kids, praying about an upcoming move, praying for your purpose, praying for your loved ones, praying about a new car or another vacation, and, well, you get the point. So what about your CHARACTER? Do you pray about it?
Years ago, I BEGGED God to change my circumstances. He told me instead of changing my circumstances, He was using my circumstances to change my heart. In other words, He was using my challenging circumstances to refine me so that my character would become more like His. The more I studied the Bible and learned to apply it to my life, the more I discovered that I could become free from the old me and become the woman of God He wanted me to be.
Over time, as my mind became renewed by the study and application of the Bible, I found that God was taking me through His refining fire so I would undergo a TOTAL TRANSFORMATION. Some of my circumstances changed over time; some of the challenging ones did not. But guess what happened? I changed! I started to become less like my old self and more like my Father in heaven – loving, forgiving, merciful, kind, gentle, etc.
And, as I have changed, my prayers have changed. Sure, I still pray for people all the time. And I pray about circumstances and situations. But I added something vitally important to my prayer life. I pray about my character.
I pray God would help me to be like He tells me in His Bible He wants me to be. And, though I continue to fall short daily as any human does, I find increasingly that I am truly growing in the image of my Father.
“And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.” (Romans 12:2 NASB)
