“Many of the Samaritans from that town believed in him because of the woman’s testimony, “He told me everything I ever did.” So when the Samaritans came to him, they urged him to stay with them, and he stayed two days. And because of his words many more became believers.They said to the woman, “We no longer believe just because of what you said; now we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this man really is the Savior of the world.” John 4:39-42 ESV
If you’ve heard the story of the Samaritan woman at the well whom Jesus asked if she would give Him some well water only to then offer her the living waters of the Spirit of God, and whom Jesus shocked by declaring He knew all about her multiple husbands, and to whom and through whom to us all He explained true worshipers of God do so “in spirit and in truth (John 4:24)” rather than according to location and essentially human traditions, did you notice what happened afterward? Many Samaritans believed in the Lord Jesus Christ because of her testimony, BUT it did not end there. Don’t miss the message I did for so long!
The Samaritans “URGED HIM TO STAY WITH THEM” and “BECAUSE OF HIS WORDS MANY MORE BECAME BELIEVERS.” (bold and upper case added). Listen to the Holy Spirit speak to your heart as you read those words. How many of us hear about Jesus Christ from someone else, through someone’s preaching, someone’s testimony, someone’s Christian book, someone’s devotional, etc. and never go farther than that? When the Samaritans heard about Jesus from the woman at the well, they hungered and thirsted for Him and wanted more of Him. They wanted to learn of Him. They wanted Him! They had a yearning, an urgency, a desire, to find out who this Jesus was. They acted on this hunger. Then what? They LISTENED TO HIS WORDS! They HEARD HIM! They paid attention to Him! They focused on Him! Then what? They “BECAME BELIEVERS”! Their faith wasn’t based on hearsay. They “BECAME BELIEVERS” because they TOOK ACTION when they heard about Jesus and decided wisely to figure out for themselves who this Jesus was. They came to see He is the Christ, Lord and Savior of the world!
Rock solid faith in Jesus Christ, a life devoted to Him, an amazing relationship with God, and eternal life come when we with passion, hunger, desire, yearning, and urgency desire Jesus comes to stay with us and we spend time with God and LISTEN TO HIS WORD! A genuine believer listens to and follows the Lord in love and obedience.
Will you not hunger for and seek and believe in and follow the Lord?
