Be Thankful, Don’t Complain!

“Be thankful, don’t complain,” the Holy Spirit spoke to my heart. I had just woken up, had not gotten a great night’s sleep, and still groggy had begun to think about a situation in which a loved one was hurting me once again. Ouch. Big ouch.

As many times as the Lord over the years has reminded me to NOT think about certain things, to take those thoughts captive (2 Cor. 10:5), and to think about the things He tells us in the Bible to think about, I was definitely on the wrong path. The Lord wasn’t through speaking to me. This time He gave me a Bible verse.

“I will bless the LORD at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth.” Psalms 34:1

Just what I needed. Of course. The Lord always knows. Where had my praise gone? And my thanksgiving? I was feeling sorry for myself, feeling down, and my morning was just beginning.

God commands us above all else to love Him with all our hearts and to love others as ourselves. I needed to express my love to the Lord with praise and thanksgiving. I needed to love the person hurting me by forgiving and praying for that person. I needed to purge from my thoughts the disappointment, discouragement, hurt, sadness, and self-pity. I needed to stop thinking about myself.

I needed to go forth into the day loving and serving the Lord with all my heart and keep my heart, ears, and eyes open to any and all opportunities to love and serve others in His name. I was ready for a fresh start.

Need a fresh start? Turn to the Lord! Repent! Purge from your thoughts, words, and actions any and all sin against God. Sin isn’t just wrong actions. It’s wrong words. It’s wrong thoughts. Anything that goes against God and His ways and will for us. Purge it all. If you’re a believer in Jesus as Lord, be filled with His Holy Spirit afresh and press on. If you’re not a believer, now is the time! Believe in Jesus as Lord, in His death and resurrection, turn from your sins and turn to Him and His ways, ask for and receive the gift of His Holy Spirit, and go forth following the Lord with all your heart!

Complaining is sin against God. Negative thinking is sin. Holding grudges and anger and bitterness toward people, this is all sin. Sin be gone! Let us replace the complaining and other sin in our hearts and lives with praise, joy, and thanksgiving, all to the glory of the Lord Jesus Christ, Hallelujah!

Oh, Father, forgive ALL our sin. Cleanse us of ALL our unrighteousness. Just as you tell us in 1 John 1:9 you will do! Oh, God, be merciful with us. Help us to love, adore, serve, worship, praise, and glorify you each and every day and forevermore! Teach us not to complain and be negative. Teach us to rejoice always as your Word tells us to do! Oh, God, help us to be thankful as we should be! Oh, Lord, help us to be the children of yours you created us to be, AMEN!

“Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice.” Philippians 4:4 KJV

“Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.” Philippians 4:8 KJV

“(For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled.” 2 Corinthians 10:4-6 KJV
