Nevertheless many even of the rulers believed in Him, but because of the Pharisees they were not confessing Him, for fear that they would be put out of the synagogue; 43for they loved the approval of men rather than the approval of God. (John 40:42-43 NASB)
The Bible teaches us to fear God, not man. This means we are called to live for God, not humans. Our decisions and actions need to be based on God, not man. We should aim to please God, not man. We should desire God’s approval, not man’s.
The rulers in the scripture above held back from confessing Christ because they feared man, not God. Their decisions and actions were based on man, not God. They aimed to please man, not God.
Do you hold back from talking about Jesus Christ with your family, friends, co-workers, and in the public at large for fear of how humans will respond? Seek God’s forgiveness for fearing man rather than Him, and ask Him to teach you how, and to give you the strength, to fear Him. Ask Him for the courage and strength to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ as we are called to do as followers of Jesus. Learn how to live your life for the glory of God rather than the approval of humans.
