God didn’t create humanity and then take a gargantuan God-sized cookie cutter and press it down on all people again and again to make us and our lives look all like each other. But would you agree sometimes we who are Jesus followers become preoccupied with other Christians and their lives and relationships with God and feel like our hearts and lives are supposed to look like theirs?
I am one of those off-the-beaten track, passionate, creative, march-to-a-different-drummer kind of women, and countless times over the years I have felt terrible about myself because I didn’t feel like I looked and acted like all of God’s other followers. Especially those I determined were the “beautiful”, “successful”, “perfect”, “popular”, “famous”, “have-it-all-together-all-the-time”, etc. ones.
Friend, we weren’t created in their image. We were created in God’s image. We weren’t designed by God to look like them and to grow in their image. We were made to grow in His image.
Step out from under the cookie cutter if you’re spending your life under it. It doesn’t belong to God. Behold the Lord, surrender all to Him, and let Him mold and fashion you into the man or woman of God He created YOU to be!
I absolutely love this verse and how clear it is the Holy Spirit changes His followers into His image!
“But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.” 2 Corinthians 3:18
In whose image we were created?
“And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness:…” Genesis 1:26
“So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.” Genesis 1:27
