“For I know the plans that I have for you,’ declares the LORD, ‘plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope.” Jeremiah 29:11 NASB

You like your job, for the most part. It’s not perfect, but pretty close. You’re making good money. The title makes you proud. You’re paying the bills. Nice home. Your retirement fund is moving along. You go out to eat. Nice vacations. You donate to good causes. You’re saving for college for the kids. Life is good. You’re comfortable. You feel pretty secure, especially given the economy. You’ve worked hard to get to where you are. It may not be your dream job, but it’s pretty close. So let me ask you a question. Is this God’s dream job for you, or is it yours?

God has a plan and purpose for your life, right down to your job. Are you working the job God chose for you, or are you holding onto a job because you found your comfort zone and don’t want to take the risk of seeking God’s will for your work life and following His plan? Are you afraid to let go of your comfort? Is God calling you somewhere else, but you don’t want to let go of your so-called security?

Are you putting your trust in your job, or are you putting your trust in God? Why not seek the Lord and make sure you’re in His will regarding your work life? And, if He has already spoken to you and you’re too afraid to move, why not pray for the courage and strength to let go of what you’re holding onto and move forward to where He’s calling you?

I heard a true story once of a man who got to the end of his life and shared with a relative that he knew he had not done on this earth what he had been called here to do. I don’t know about you, but I want to know when I take my final breath that I did my best to live the life the Lord called me here to live – for His glory.
