Are you living a lie? Be honest. Okay, I will. Sometimes I’m living a lie. Sometimes, in fact, I’m living a bunch of lies. Like recently. It seems every time I start writing a new book, the devil comes at me with full force. Why? Because he wants to shut me down. He wants to stop my writing. How? He feeds me a bunch of lies. And sometimes, to be perfectly honest, I start believing his lies again. Know what I mean? Let me give you an example.
You’re a piece of garbage. You can’t write. Look at those real writers over there. See how successful they are. You’re trash. You don’t deserve to write that book. You’re not good enough. Your life is a mess. God didn’t heal you. Nobody likes you. Look at all the people who hate you. Lies, lies, and more lies. But do you know something?
If I’m not wearing and using the full armor of God (Ephesians 6), and if I’m not casting down imaginations and taking every thought captive (1 Corinthians 2:5 ), and if I’m focused on the devil’s lies instead of God’s Truth (the Word), guess what. The next thing I know, I think maybe I’ll quit writing the book. Or, better yet, maybe I’ll quit writing altogether. And that’s exactly what I get for believing the devil’s lies.
I wish I could tell you I have a perfect walk with the Lord. But I do not. I mess up every day. Every single day. But do you know something? In God’s mercy, He always forgives me when I go to Him and confess I have messed up again. Then He helps me get back up on my feet and move forward in my walk with Him. What an awesome God He is!
Do you think God wants me living a lie? Of course not. He wants me living His truth. And that’s exactly what I intend to do, despite the mistakes I make along the way. By His grace, I get to carry on – learning how to live the true life He has called me to live rather than living the devil’s lies.
I encourage you to examine your life to see if you’re living any lies. Are you believing anything the devil’s been whispering in your ear? Repent, cast out the lies, and dive into God’s Word as you pursue a life of God’s Truth.
