I believed if I found the right people with the right “goods”, voila. I would be satisfied. Of course, I never was. In fact, I ended up completely shattered. My life was in a million pieces. God absolutely provides through people at times, but the bottom line is that God is my provider. Not humankind. He is the source of everlasting life through faith in Jesus Christ, He is the source of love that never ends, of mercy that goes on forever, of peace, of joy, of comfort and compassion, of my physical needs, and the list goes on.
When I place my trust in the Lord, I am never abandoned, never forsaken, never rejected, never neglected, never discarded. I am loved by Him, adopted by Him, accepted by Him, forgiven by Him, and once again, the list goes on. My job? To simply place my faith in Jesus Christ, and to follow Jesus as the Bible instructs me.
As the nation prepares its grills and fireworks, its boats and flags, its picnics and parties, I prepare for my own celebration of life. Of everlasting life, thanks to what Jesus Christ did on the cross for me and the world. He took the sins of the world on Himself, got up on that cross, and endured all the wrath of God, and separation from Him, to pay the penalty for the sins of the world. What does the Lord ask of me? To believe in Jesus, and what He did, to lay down my independence (my way of living), to live His way according to the Bible, and to follow the lead of Jesus. Wow.
Thank God for dependence. May every day, not just July 4, be a day of dependence – on the Lord Jesus Christ.
Hallelujah!
