“Disobedience of any kind grieves me,” the Holy Spirit told me.
Now any time we believe the Lord has spoken to us, we need to measure what we hear against the Bible. He only and always speaks in line with it. Does disobedience displease, dishonor, and grieve the Lord? The Lord makes utterly clear in His Word He despises sin, that sin has awful consequences, and that we are not to grieve His Holy Spirit!
Note exactly what He spoke to me. Disobedience of ANY kind grieves Him. Why would He include the word “any”? I believe He was emphasizing that ALL disobedience grieves Him, and that no matter how “little” we may consider our disobedience, it is still wrong and rebellion against the Lord and hurts Him!
If we’re honest with ourselves, don’t we sometimes think, “Oh this sin against God isn’t so bad.” “That other person’s sin is so much greater.” “Surely the Lord won’t care about this one wrong thing I’m doing. After all, it could be much worse.” “I used to sin in such a “big” way. Now I sin in such a “little” way. No big deal, is it?” Oh, yes it is!
Friend, disobedience is disobedience is disobedience. Sin is sin is sin. Rebellion is rebellion is rebellion. Rebellion against Jesus is ALWAYS unacceptable no matter how “little” or “big” we may consider it to be.
We are simply NOT to sin against the Lord, and if we have already fallen, we are to repent. If we are having trouble letting a particular sin go, let us cry out to Him for the strength to let it go and reach out to other followers of Christ for love, help, encouragement, prayer, and support in seeking wisdom in God’s Word. The Lord will help us to break free from what we need to be free from.
Father, help us not to grieve you! Help us not to sin against you! Free us from any and all sins we are in bondage to! Help us to love, honor, and please you! By your Holy Spirit lead us to repentance when we need it. Oh, Lord God, thank you for your patience and mercy with us! God have mercy on us, AMEN!
