When a beautiful young woman told me how she has loved the Lord for a very long time, I was reminded of how for years I walked around telling people I believed in and loved the Lord. Now I most assuredly loved the Lord emotionally, but in truth I came to find out I didn’t REALLY love the Lord. I didn’t love God the way His followers are commanded to love Him. The Lord’s number one commandment is to love Him with all our hearts, souls, minds, and strength.
The Lord makes abundantly clear in the Bible that loving Him has many aspects and facets to it including honoring Him, praising Him, worshiping Him, revering Him, humbling ourselves before Him, singing to Him, telling others about Him, longing for Him, praying to Him, seeking Him, pleasing Him, bringing Him joy and pleasure, glorifying Him – and OBEYING HIM! Loving Him with all our hearts, minds, souls, and strength must include OBEDIENCE TO CHRIST – and repentance when we fall short with the longing and desire to humble ourselves and walk in loving, faithful, devoted obedience to Him!
Friend, true love for Christ involves OBEDIENCE TO CHRIST! That was exactly what I was missing even as I went around telling people I believed in and loved the Lord. When we really love the Lord, our love is to be expressed in a lifestyle of OBEDIENCE TO GOD! We are to be filled with and led by His Holy Spirit as He teaches and empowers us to live according to His ways, according to His will, for His glory!
Do you REALLY love the Lord? Do you believe in Jesus Christ as Lord? Are you following Jesus Christ as Lord day by day? Are you living in obedience to Jesus Christ as Lord? Do you seek and receive His forgiveness when you fall short & strive ultimately to love, please, and glorify the Lord? Oh, friend, may it be so!
May the Lord use the following verses to bring you to a place of repentance if, as, and when needed – and total devotion to the Lord now and forever and ever, AMEN!
“And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?” Luke 6:46
“And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.” Mark 12:30
“If ye love me, keep my commandments.” John 14:15
“He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.” John 14:21
“Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.” John 14:23
