Don’t Be A Grasshopper!

Joshua and Caleb from their perspective saw the giants in the land promised to the Israelites as obstacles that could be overcome in the strength of God, but the men who came with them to check out the land looked from the perspective of seeing themselves as grasshoppers who would never be able to overcome the giants. Their perspective all boiled down to where they put their trust. If they put their trust in themselves, they would fail. If they placed their trust in God, they would have victory. Joshua, Caleb, and the other men all faced the same giants. But their hearts and perspective were entirely different. Where are your heart and perspective in facing your life’s challenges? In facing the obstacles that stand in the way of you and God’s will for your life?

Don’t see yourself as a grasshopper! The devil tries to convince us we will never overcome the obstacles in the pathway of following the Lord and His will for our lives so we get discouraged, depressed, downhearted, afraid, feel defeated, quit, turn back, turn away from God, give up on God’s will for our lives, don’t pursue the dreams God has given us, and even give up outright on life. He wants to scare us into believing we’re nothing more than grasshoppers who will not overcome the giants we face in life so we decide to forget about living for God and pursuing His plans for us.

If you are a committed follower of the Lord Jesus Christ, your victory concerning God’s will for your life and the giants in the way lies in the strength of Christ for the glory of Christ and in putting your trust IN HIM. Don’t see yourself as a grasshopper! Don’t see yourself as little, frail, fragile, and hop, hop, hop away from the pathway God has set before you.

See yourself as a child and servant of God almighty strong in His strength and press on following Him with love, humility, boldness, courage, joy, thanksgiving, and excitement as you yield yourself to the Spirit of God as He works in and through you to bring glory to His name now and forevermore, AMEN!

Father, it’s so easy to see ourselves as grasshoppers when we look up and face the gargantuan giants of this life. It’s so natural for us as humans to put our trust in ourselves and each other and to end up sorely disappointed not to mention totally defeated. Teach us to put all our trust in you, not to see ourselves as grasshoppers, but to humbly know we can – and will – have victory when we live in loving obedience to YOU! Help us, oh Lord, AMEN!

“Then Caleb quieted the people before Moses, and said, “Let us go up at once and take possession, for we are well able to overcome it.” But the men who had gone up with him said, “We are not able to go up against the people, for they are stronger than we.” And they gave the children of Israel a bad report of the land which they had spied out, saying, “The land through which we have gone as spies is a land that devours its inhabitants, and all the people whom we saw in it are men of great stature. There we saw the giants (the descendants of Anak came from the giants); and we were like grasshoppers in our own sight, and so we were in their sight.”” Numbers 13:30-33

“For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith.” 1 John 5:4

“I write to you, fathers, Because you have known Him who is from the beginning. I write to you, young men, Because you have overcome the wicked one. I write to you, little children, Because you have known the Father. I have written to you, fathers, Because you have known Him who is from the beginning. I have written to you, young men, Because you are strong, and the word of God abides in you, And you have overcome the wicked one.” 1 John 2:13-14

“Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written: “FOR YOUR SAKE WE ARE KILLED ALL DAY LONG; WE ARE ACCOUNTED AS SHEEP FOR THE SLAUGHTER.” Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:35-3
