Don’t Forget This!

“…Bless the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name. Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits…: Who forgiveth all thine iniquities…Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies…The LORD is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy. He will not always chide: neither will he keep his anger for ever. He hath not dealt with us after our sins; nor rewarded us according to our iniquities. For as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is his mercy toward them that fear him. As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us.” Psalms 103:1-12

Why is it when we praise God or talk to others about our blessings we are so often, if not always, focused on our physical blessings? The tangible, the touchable, what we can see, taste, hear, feel, what we can hold in our hands, or pile up in our little mountains of earthly treasures, what we can drive in, where we can park ourselves on vacation, what we can taste in our mouths, our physical healing, paychecks and promotions, the weather, our relationships, friends, family, etc.? Oh, we should thank Him for all of this without doubt! For every good thing comes from the Lord, and we should never hold back our praises to God for any of our blessings! But why is it the greatest blessing of all gets so quickly shuffled to the side? To the back burner? To anywhere at all but at the forefront of our minds?

Do you know EVERY SINGLE ONE OF US deserves to go to hell and the lake of fire because we are ALL sinners who cannot be in God’s presence because He is perfect, holy, and righteous? Do you realize even the smallest sin is worthy of death and hell? Why does David write of NOT forgetting God’s benefits? Isn’t that what we do? And do we not forget to praise God for the greatest blessing of all? For sending Jesus Christ to the cross to die for us and pay the penalty for our sins so we can repent and believe in Him and turn to God and His ways and be in forever fellowship with the Lord both now on earth and in heaven? When we genuinely believe in Christ which is demonstrated in our lives being truly devoted to God and what He teaches us in the Bible, do you realize He “crowns” us with “lovingkindness and tender mercies”? He is merciful! He is gracious! The Creator of the universe loves us and wants us in His fold forever! He gave up His only begotten Son for us so we don’t have to go to hell IF WE FEAR HIM. If we repent of our wickedness and live for God! How despicable I complain when I don’t get the blessings I want! How appalling I overlook this greatest blessing of all! Jesus Christ!

Forget not His benefits! Oh, forget not His benefits! Remember the Lord! Live for Him! Praise the Lord for the greatest blessing of all! Him!
