Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.” 1 Cor. 15:58
I stayed for virtually a year at my first hotel out on the road year-round for the Lord and ministry, but I confess it almost didn’t turn out the way. There was so much evil there due to certain people, circumstances, and situations that I became so terrified at one point I was ready to pack up my stuff, the sweet ministry dogs in my care, and run.
But instead of running, I cried out to the Lord, cried out to my friends to pray, and waited on the Lord to tell me what to do. He told me to stay. The fruit the Lord bore through me and the ministry was utterly awesome and would never have been borne had I gone running. Who do you think wanted to run me off and get me away from that hotel where the Lord was doing such a powerful work in people’s lives through my little heart and ministry? Satan! The devil! He wanted to run me off – fast, furiously, and forever.
The devil can’t stop Christ’s followers from having a forever relationship with Him, but he can go to exceeding lengths to try to stop us from loving and serving God to the utmost. That’s exactly what he was trying to do. And, only by God’s grace, and thanks to a strong relationship with Him and to beautiful Christ-following friends who prayed me through that season, I stayed and fulfilled the Lord’s will for me there.
It was not the only time the devil came after me since I went out on the road full-time for Jesus, nor may it be the last. But I knew, and know, there is only one answer. The Lord Jesus Christ. Total commitment to Christ, trust in Christ, obedience to Christ, and victory in Christ! Faithfulness to Him was, and is, an absolute must. Total devotion to Jesus.
Is the devil trying to get you to quit something God has called you to do, or to leave somewhere God has called you to go, or to end a relationship or job to which God has called you, or to leave a church God has sent you to in order to serve others, or to leave a geographical location He sent you to for missions work, or anything else for that matter?
Don’t let the devil run you off, friend. Be faithful to Jesus. Stay committed to Christ. Put your trust in Him. Pray your heart out. Cry out to Him. Cry out to Christ followers to pray for you. Be diligently studying God’s Word and live by it. Seek godly counsel when you need it. Be filled with Christ’s Spirit who lives inside His followers. Don’t run off. Stay where God wants you for as long as He wants you there to do what He wants you to do all for His glory, AMEN!
