“These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”” John 16:33
“And whoever does not bear his cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple.” Luke 14:27
““Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.” Mt. 7:13-14
“Don’t look for what’s easy,” I heard the Lord Jesus Christ speak by His Spirit to my heart. “Follow me.”
Nowhere in the Bible have I found a single verse in which Jesus tells us believing in Him as Lord is easy. In fact, the Lord makes clear throughout the Bible the pathway of following God can be extraordinarily hard and at times seemingly impossible – but that He gives us all we need to carry on – love and strength included.
Truth is the Lord gave me this message in a little season of having to do some big research and get ready for some huge change regarding my being on the road full-time for Jesus.
He caught me red-handed, as the expression goes. Trying to do what seemed easiest. To go where it would be easiest. I was thinking in terms of my ease and comfort. After all, hadn’t I paid enough of a price being on the road for Him for nearly two years? Absolutely not!
The sacrifices involved in fully and faithfully following Jesus are ongoing – and totally worth it when we consider believing in Jesus as Lord and being in His forever presence.
One of those sacrifices involves learning how NOT to base decisions on our comfort and ease. And to be willing to say goodbye to the easy and be willing to do the hard – for Jesus’ sake.
The Lord may bless us with seasons of ease and comfort, but that’s up to Him. Bottom line is our decisions need to not be based on pleasing self but instead on pleasing Christ. It’s not about me and you and what we want and what makes us feel good and makes us happy. It’s about Jesus and living for Him!
Don’t look for what’s easy in your decision-making, my friend. Look to Jesus and do what’s right. God’s will, not yours. He will give you the strength, mercy, grace, and hope to carry on and to fulfill His plans for you.
Follow Jesus! No matter the cost to your comfort and ease. For God’s sake!
There is no greater reward than Jesus Himself and being with Him forevermore! Oh, follow the Lord! Faithfully – and forever, AMEN!
