Maybe you’re not a very emotional person. Maybe you are. Some people are. Some aren’t. If you know me, you know I am. We all have emotions. Feelings. Think about it. I feel good. I feel bad. I feel tired. I feel sad. I feel happy. I feel strongly about this. I feel afraid. I am worrying. I feel hurt. I feel devastated. I feel excited. I feel elated. I feel like doing something. I absolutely don’t feel like doing that. I’m not in the mood. I’m so incredibly angry at them. I feel so bitter. I am so jealous of her. Emotions, emotions. We can be driven by our emotions.
When in fact we’re supposed to not live according to our feelings but instead to be led by God. Emotions aren’t to rule and reign in our hearts and lives. God is. And sometimes if we’re not careful we may allow our emotions to stop us from seeking and fulfilling God’s will for us.
Are you allowing your emotions in any way to stop you from fulfilling God’s will for you day by day?
Examples. God instructs you to apply for a new job. You allow fear to stop you from applying. God leads you to share the Gospel with your quilting group. You’re worried about what they think and refuse to do it. God wants you to pray for three people down the street but you’re angry at them and refuse to pray. God is calling you to start a ministry but you’re feeling depressed and choose instead to hide under the covers knowing full well God will give you the love, resources, courage, and strength to start the ministry. God commands you to love and forgive but you’re holding onto that really old hurt and won’t budge whatsoever when it comes to those family members you don’t talk to anymore. Get the point? We can allow our feelings to stop us from following God.
If you are allowing your emotions to stop you from fulfilling God’s will for your life day by day, it’s time to stop. And it’s time to start yielding to the rule and reign of God almighty in your life now and forevermore, AMEN!
