An elderly woman I met one day was excited to share with me how she believes in the Lord Jesus Christ, was devotedly studying her Bible, and wanted to tell others about how wonderful the Lord is and to share her strong and powerful testimony. Of course this meant that God had brought her to the other side of all her struggles, right? All her challenges were gone, right? Life had once been hard and now was easy and comfortable, right? Not in the least!
What struck me when I thought about this woman in retrospect is that she was right in the thick of very challenging circumstances. Circumstances that might leave many people doubting God’s existence, doubting His goodness, doubting His power, doubting His ability, doubting His love, and most assuredly not desirous to tell others about Him.
But not so with this woman. She was thankful right in the midst of her challenges. She wanted to love, honor, praise, and proclaim Christ right as she continued through the challenges of this life.
Very convicting for me. Is it for you? Lots of us, myself very much included, tend to want to glorify God when everything is easy and comfortable and wonderful. We want to trust Him and share our faith in Him with others and tell of His wonderful goodness and works when all is well and right and happy in our lives.
God used this woman to remind me I need to do a much better job of trusting Him, loving Him, thanking Him, and telling others about Him with joy and thanksgiving no matter my life’s circumstances, no matter my struggles, trials, and challenges.
The truth is the Lord is worthy of our love, faith, trust, thanksgiving, joy, and proclaiming Him and His goodness ALL THE TIME – now and forevermore, AMEN!
“Oh, that men would give thanks to the LORD for His goodness, And for His wonderful works to the children of men!” Psalm 107:8
