Are you a worrier? Afraid of getting bad news? Fearful the phone call, the knock on the door, the letter in the mailbox, the email you just got, your loved one telling you he or she needs to talk to you privately, the doctor’s office calling, the school test results being handed to you, etc., will be bad news? I’m a worrier by nature coupled with the fact I’ve had endless struggles over the years and plenty of bad news along the way to the point if I’m not careful I tend to worry – and worry big – that more bad news is coming my way. Can you relate?
Please consider this verse:
“He will not be afraid of evil tidings; His heart is steadfast, trusting in the LORD.” Psalm 112:7
The Lord does NOT promise us bad news will never come. But He tells us through the psalmist not to be afraid of “evil tidings” and instead to be steadfast – fixed & focused on & committed to – Him as we PUT OUR TRUST IN HIM!
Friend, when we turn from our sins, believe in Jesus Christ as Lord and in His death and resurrection, truly committing our lives to God and His ways, genuinely living for Him no longer for ourselves, we can look forward to eternity with Him in which there will never ever be any bad news and suffering not ever!
“These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”” John 16:33
In the meantime, knowing full well bad news and suffering do come on this earth, we who believe in and faithfully follow Jesus Christ as Lord can rest assured the Lord is with us offering us His lordship, His Holy Spirit, His Word, the Bible, His love, hope, peace, joy, comfort, compassion, wisdom, strength, power, healing, friendship, fellowship, intimacy, purpose, guidance, direction, freedom, deliverance, refuge, shelter, protection, provision, encouragement, inspiration, other Jesus followers to walk alongside us, time alone with Him, His hearing our cries, and on and on His blessedness and blessings go no matter the good news and joys and victories of this life and no matter the trials and struggles along the way.
God almighty is with His followers now and forevermore! Glory be to the Lord! Hallelujah, oh yes, AMEN!
