French Fries and Cupcakes

Some people love French fries. Some people love cupcakes. Some people don’t care for either. I could care less about French fries and cupcakes. But I have foods I love. And things I love. And people I love. Some people are drawn to certain people. Some are drawn to others. Some love football. Others hate sports. Some love traveling. Others prefer to not go anywhere. We all have our loves and cares, don’t we? We spend our lives pursuing, seeking, experiencing, enjoying, having relationships with, and treasuring what and whom we love, don’t we?

Trouble is sometimes we get our loves and cares out of order. See, there is one we were created to love, pursue, seek, experience, enjoy, have a relationship with, and treasure more than anything or anyone on this earth. The Lord Jesus Christ. And when Jesus is not our first love and highest priority, we need to get our priorities in order.

Jesus first. Always.

Have any changes to make?

“Jesus answered him, “The first of all the commandments is: ‘HEAR, O ISRAEL, THE LORD OUR GOD, THE LORD IS ONE. AND YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, WITH ALL YOUR MIND, AND WITH ALL YOUR STRENGTH.’ This is the first commandment. And the second, like it, is this: ‘YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”” Mark 12:29-31 NKJV

In these next verses, Jesus was speaking to the people who were doing a bunch of good stuff but who no longer looked to Jesus as their FIRST LOVE. He called them to repent and to return to Him as their first love.

“”I know your works, your labor, your patience, and that you cannot bear those who are evil. And you have tested those who say they are apostles and are not, and have found them liars; and you have persevered and have patience, and have labored for My name’s sake and have not become weary. Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love. Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent and do the first works, or else I will come to you quickly and remove your lampstand from its place—unless you repent.” Revelation 2:2-5 NKJV
