Some years ago a woman I knew asked me if I thought so-and-so was a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ or a follower. This concept was new to me, and no surprise at that. I didn’t know there was a difference, and I had some serious repentance, changing, and growing to do! She and I were talking about someone else, but I needed to take a good hard look at this matter myself. And so I since have and now share it with you.
Jesus says many who call Him Lord won’t end up in heaven because they never turned away from their wickedness. The Bible makes clear forever life with God instead of hell and the lake of fire is for those who live in obedience to the Lord. Jesus says the path is narrow for His followers. He also says those who want to follow Him need to deny self and follow Him. And the Bible says faith without works to go with it is dead. John the Baptist preached that real repentance comes with fruit that shows a changed life – a life lived for Christ.
The Bible is filled from start to finish with wisdom on what it looks like to be a follower of God. In plain English, a Christ follower lives for God according to God’s ways not for self according to the world’s ways. And God teaches us His ways in the Bible.
Professing to believe in Jesus as Lord, calling oneself a Christian, going to church, reading the Bible, volunteering at church, serving in a ministry, going on missions trips, etc., this is all well and good but it is not what qualifies someone for everlasting life with God. Even the demons believe.
Plain and simple, we need to TURN from our sins, BELIEVE in Jesus Christ as Lord and in His death and resurrection, and TURN genuinely to God and His ways.
Friend, NOW is the time to BELIEVE IN and FOLLOW and LIVE FOR CHRIST, yes, NOW is the time! One day, if the truth be told, it will be too late. May hell and the lake of fire not be your final destination. May you spend eternity with God in heaven. The starting place is to REPENT and TURN to Christ as Lord. Become His follower.
The kind of faith in Christ as Lord that results in forever with God is not merely an intellectual faith, friend. It is a faith that comes with one’s life being fully devoted to Jesus and to living utterly for Him! Oh, be His full-fledged follower. Now and forevermore, oh YES! AMEN!
“”Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’ “Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock. “But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.”” Matthew 7:21-27
“You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe—and tremble! But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead?” James 2:19-20
“and He died for all, that those who live should live no longer for themselves, but for Him who died for them and rose again.” 2 Corinthians 5:15
“And having been perfected, He became the author of eternal salvation to all who obey Him,” Hebrews 5:9
“Then He said to them all, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me.” Luke 9:23
“Therefore bear fruits worthy of repentance, and do not begin to say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’ For I say to you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones. And even now the ax is laid to the root of the trees. Therefore every tree which does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.”” Luke 3:8-9
