God the Master Builder

“Then the LORD put forth his hand, and touched my mouth. And the LORD said unto me, Behold, I have put my words in thy mouth. See, I have this day set thee over the nations and over the kingdoms, to root out, and to pull down, and to destroy, and to throw down, to build, and to plant.” Jeremiah 1:9-10

When God called Jeremiah the prophet to proclaim WORDS of dire warning to the people to repent and turn from their sin to God, He called him to “root out, and to pull down, and to destroy, and to throw down, to build, and to plant” whole nations and kingdoms. How? Not with his hands, but with the WORDS God gave him. What does this mean for us as individuals today?

God uses His Spirit through His WORD – the Bible – to tear us down so He can use His WORD by His Spirit to build us up into the people He created us to be. Ever watched a demolition crew tear down an old, dark, decrepit, falling down, rotting, bug-infested, smelly, filthy, useless house so a new, beautiful, light-filled, clean, fresh, airy, sunny, warm, cozy, and inviting house can be built in its place? We with our sin-infested dark, decrepit, and useless lives need to be torn down by the conviction of God’s Spirit through His WORD, our old lives demolished when we repent and believe in Christ, and then built anew, afresh, according to the study and application of God’s WORD. God’s Word is His blueprint for our new lives, and He by His Spirit is our demolition crew and our master builder.

This is not a one-time occurrence. Just like a new house needs upkeep and maintenance to stay fresh, clean, and full of light, we need God’s Spirit and WORD continually “to root out, and to pull down, and to destroy, and to throw down” what is not of Him and to “build, and to plant” His will in our lives. Yielded your life to the master builder?
