Fixing the dogs’ dinner, and that’s quite a feat considering there are 16 Walk by Faith Ministry dogs that all eat different amounts, different foods, and get different medications in some of their dishes, I decided to multi-task by engaging God in conversation. I pressed into Him for the umpteenth time to see if He wanted me to do anything about a decades-long situation that I had prayed, and hoped, would be long since resolved. As I measured out the dogs’ food and tried to keep track of all their various meal-time needs, I waited for God’s reply. I shouldn’t have been surprised when He gave me His usual reply. He wanted me to trust Him, wait, and do nothing. Now that’s a tall order for someone like me. I’m a hands-on person. Besides, how could I trust Him with something this big, and this important? A foolish question, I know. But seriously. This situation is a really big deal. So I figured the very least God could do while I continue to wait is to do me a special favor.
“God, couldn’t you at least give me a peek?” I asked God. No sooner did the thought cross my mind than I had to laugh at myself.
God isn’t teaching me to walk by faith so I can get sneak peeks at what He’s doing behind the scenes. He is teaching me to TRUST Him to such a degree that I don’t need to know absolutely anything other than He is God, and He is sovereign. How many times have I prayed for God’s will to be done, and then turned right around and wanted to know all the details, what God was up to, how things were going to turn out, what would happen along the way, etc. Suffice it to say that as God continues to convict me of my need to truly place my trust in Him, I don’t get the sense He’s planning to give me any sneak peeks.
In fact, I’ve studied the Bible enough to know that He doesn’t want me focused on my circumstances anyway. He wants me focused on Him. Needless to say, I sneaked over to the computer to write a little of this piece before turning my attention back to fixing the dogs’ dinner. I might as well keep myself busy since it doesn’t look like God’s planning to give me any sneak peeks anytime soon.
Looks like it’s time to do some more learning to walk by faith. Go figure.
“What’s the name of your ministry?” my father in Christ and pastor said some time before he took off for heaven.
“Walk by Faith Ministry,” I would reply. “Then you might want to try doing it.”
So much for the sneak peek. It’s back to walking by faith for me. . .
