“That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:” 1 Peter 1:7

“What lesson are you teaching me?” I said to God aloud. This was not a prayer, and my voice was not filled with love and kindness nor my heart seeking a reply. I was exasperated, discouraged, overwhelmed, you name it. Try leading a ministry as an evangelist and author while caring for 16 mostly special needs and senior rescued dogs some of whom have just decided peeing inside is the next best thing to a dog treat buffet with no staff or volunteers on a tiny budget. Think I really wanted to hear what lesson He was, and is, teaching me? No. But apparently God did.

PATIENCE. ENDURANCE. TRUST. The words came tumbling down from above like heaven couldn’t hold them back any longer. God was doing His usual reigning and  GET IN LARA’S FACE to ensure she hears what she needs to hear – and DO. Patience. Endurance. Trust. Almost right away, something came to me. P.E.T. Here I was overwhelmed with the dogs, and God decided to tell me about His “P.E.T.” project. When it comes to conforming me to Christ, God has quite the project on His hands.

God equips us to love and serve Him by His Holy Spirit, through His Word, growing us in His image and trying our faith all along the way as He refines and develops us. Patience. Endurance. Trust. God most assuredly is trying my faith as He perfects the areas in which I am most in need. Something tells me I am not alone in this.

Instead of looking at your trials as nothing more than painful and pointless, remember God knows exactly what He’s doing in you, and ultimately, through you.
