4 Necessities in Following Christ!
“Help me to trust you, oh Lord. Help me to obey you. Help me to be humble. Oh Lord! Help me to be totally surrendered to you in writing and all things!” I prayed.
Friend, these are 4 vital necessities for a Christ follower.
Trust. Obedience. Humility. Total surrender.
Do you trust fully in the Lord? Are you living in wholehearted obedience to Him? Do you humble yourself continually? Are you wholly surrendered to the Lord Jesus Christ? There is room for growth in us all, is there not?
These necessities don’t come naturally to us, do they? We need to die to self to live in this way. This way of living for Christ!
I found myself that day praying for them because I still have so very much growing to do in the way of living for Jesus.
Need to do the same? Have some growing to do? Pray! Believe in Jesus! Follow Jesus! Live for Jesus! And pray along the way!
Oh, Lord, I was so self-centered I couldn’t imagine living a life of trusting you, obeying you, humbling myself before you, and surrendering myself to you. I want to be Christ-centered now, Lord. And my heart’s cry for those who read my writing, who watch my Video Devotionals, to whom I minister, and for people far and wide who may never cross my path at all is that people everywhere will humble themselves and live utterly for you, dear Lord. Help us all, dear Father, to trust you, to obey you, to humble ourselves before you, and to surrender ourselves entirely to you day by day and breath by breath, now and forevermore, AMEN!
Help us to do your will day by day, dear Father! Oh, help us Lord! AMEN!
“”Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven.” Matthew 7:21
I don’t like my attitude, I thought as I sat at my little hotel desk with my laptop trying to do some ministry work. Ugh. I knew I needed to stop my work. And repent. Wasn’t so very long ago I would have had a bad attitude and justified it. Excused it. And kept right on with whatever I was doing. I would have held onto that bad attitude for dear life. I would have clung to it. Not so anymore.
Now I hold onto the Lord Jesus Christ and the Bible for dear life. I cling to Him. I want to please Jesus. Not myself. Jesus wanted to please God the Father. Just like you and I need to want. And do. I went to my knees. Sought the Lord’s forgiveness. I received it. I came up off my knees cleansed, refreshed, and excited to carry on with my ministry work and the rest of the day. Following Jesus. With the right attitude. Pleasing to Him. Learning to please Him in all things. With the right heart. All for the glory of Christ, AMEN! For He is Lord! For He is King! For He is God! Oh, hallelujah!
How is your attitude right now? Daily? Need to repent? Anything else you’re thinking, saying, or doing that does not please the Father? Then repent! Then carry on with your day – and all the days to come. Live for Jesus, dear friend. Live for Him! Today and always, yes! Strive to please the Lord moment by moment – and forevermore! For He is God almighty, hallelujah, yes!
My God, please help us to please you! Teach us by your Spirit in your Word what pleases and honors you! Help us to let go of what does not. We need your strength, dear Father. Our flesh is so very weak. Without you, we would resort to all our old ways. May we who believe in Jesus Christ as Lord live for you oh Lord! Oh, yes! AMEN!
“And He who sent Me is with Me. The Father has not left Me alone, for I always do those things that please Him.”” John 8:29
Thoughts can be captivating! Dictionary.com defines captivating as “to attract and hold the attention or interest of”. When we repent and receive Jesus Christ as Lord, we are still human beings with flesh and wrong thoughts and desires. We can find our thoughts filled with sexual immorality, hatred, bitterness, hurt, rejection, selfishness, self-centeredness, self-pity, worry, vengeance, anger, pride, etc. All sin against God. When our thoughts, words, and actions are not pleasing to God, we need to get rid of them. We need His forgiveness. We need to change direction. What does God in the Bible tell us to do?
Take EVERY thought captive! EVERY thought, yes! The good ones and the bad ones. Captive? Dictionary.com defines captive as “made or held prisoner”. To what do we take our thoughts captive? To the Lord Jesus Christ! To the Bible! To obedience to Him! In other words, EVERY thought we have should be in obedience to Him. It should please and honor Him. It should not be ungodly and immoral. He teaches us in the Bible what honors Him and what is sin. Every thought needs to pass the test. If it doesn’t honor the Lord, we need to purge it from ourselves. Get rid of it!
Friend, when we are CAPTIVATED with Christ Himself, and with the Bible, we will want and even crave to love, honor, adore, praise, worship, please, fear, revere, bring pleasure and joy to, and obey the Lord! The more time I have spent in the presence of the Lord, the more I have studied the Bible, the more I have prayed to Him and been changed by Him, the more I have surrendered myself to Him, the more in love with Him I have fallen, the more I have despised my sin and hungered and thirsted to please Him.
The more captivated I have become with Jesus, the more I have desired to take my words, thoughts, and actions captive to Christ and the Bible and to purify myself for Him.
Fall in love with the Lord. Chase after Him. Humble yourself before Him. Make sure your thoughts are pleasing to Him. When they are not, take them captive. Purify yourself. Please the Lord in your words, thoughts, and actions. Be captivated with Jesus. Be captivated with Him, oh yes!
TAKE EVERY THOUGHT CAPTIVE! AMEN!
Lord, thank you for showing me all this about the word captive and the word captivated. Draw us to yourself, oh Lord. Help us to fall ever more in love with you, strengthen us to be pleasing to you, and oh, Lord, may we honor you in all things right down to our every thought. AMEN!
“For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled.” 2 Corinthians 10:4-6
Wait Until God Answers
It was just a little thing in the grand scheme of things. I was trying to figure out whether I should go to the beach with the ministry’s wheelchair dogs one morning. It was already quite warm outside and would be getting much hotter. If I left quickly, I would beat the worst of the heat. In the past, I would have just rushed ahead with what I felt like doing or with what I thought maybe just maybe the Lord wanted me to do. But this time, I waited. And He answered. He made clear in my heart I was not to go there that morning. In obedience to Him, I would not. By waiting until He answered, I found the answer. His will. Now I could obey. And did.
Now if you think the little things don’t matter in God’s eyes, you’re wrong. All things matter to the Lord. We are to obey Him in everything. We are not to pick and choose. We are not to conduct our lives based on our wishes, ways, and wants. Not on our selfish pleasures. We are not simply to believe in Jesus Christ as Lord. We are to follow Jesus Christ as Lord. We are to obey Jesus Christ as Lord. And to do the Lord’s will, we are to know the Lord’s will. And to know the Lord’s will, we are to read the Bible, to seek Him in prayer, and to wait until He answers.
I can’t tell you how many times the Lord has made known His will to me even in what I considered the smallest of matters. I discovered in choosing to obey that He had a purpose even in what in my human eyes seemed too small to matter. Everything matters when it comes to following the Lord. So pray. So seek Him. So wait on Him. And obey. All for the glory of Christ, AMEN!
Lord, remind us to seek you. Help us to seek you. Give us the desire to seek you. Give us the patience to wait on you. Don’t let us run ahead. Oh, how we tend to do that! Some of us anyway. Father, respond to our pleas to hear you. Speak to us. Teach us to discern your voice. Help us to distinguish your voice from the voice of the devil, the voice of the world, and the voice of our flesh. Help us to know that we know your will for us each and every day. And give us the strength, dear Lord, to obey. In all things, seemingly so small and all the big ones and in between ones also! AMEN!
“Glory in His holy name; Let the hearts of those rejoice who seek the LORD! Seek the LORD and His strength; Seek His face evermore!” Psalms 105:3-4
