The Water Blessing Story

I was walking with the Lord one hot beautiful day doing my usual mix of pouring out my heart to the Lord, praying, seeking Him, praising, and worshiping Him, listening for His voice, being corrected by Him, and repenting and/or whatever I find myself doing when I walk with Him when suddenly I decided to stop and drink some water which despite my usual long and fast walks I rarely do.

As I drank, I felt strongly compelled to thank the Lord for the delicious water which wonderfully quenched my sudden urge for hydration. Not only did I thank Him, but I found myself thanking Him for all the water I had ever had in my whole life!

For it suddenly dawned on me I have had access to clean, healthy, hydrating water every day of my entire life. Not to mention food, clothing, shelter, medical care, and a zillion other material blessings not to mention spiritual blessings straight from the heart and hands of almighty God!

There are people worldwide who have never had clean water, who have no water at all, who will starve to death, who are dying of heinous diseases without medical care, who will never know the warmth of heat and the cool of air conditioning, who have no shelter, who have never had clean, fitting clothes, and, most of all, who have never received the love, mercy, forgiveness, and salvation of the Lord, and many of whom have never even yet heard of the Lord!

I in my self-centered fleshly pride have taken so very much for granted in my life and have had the audacity to complain and be self-pitying about what I have considered to be my big challenges when in fact I have since the very day I was born despite my struggles along the way been blessed beyond measure by my beloved Jesus.

I have made it an aspiration of mine in faithfulness and obedience to the Lord to leave the complaining behind and to day by day choose to have a thankful heart and to express to the Lord and to the world around me my great thanksgiving to Him!

That water that day wasn’t just refreshing and replenishing. It was in reality life-changing as the Lord used it to open wide my eyes like never before to the reality of His blessings so many of which I have neglected to be thankful to Him for, and I hope this message is life-changing for you also!

Please join me in choosing thanksgiving to the Lord day after day – and forevermore. AMEN!

Lord, thank you for water! Thank you for food, shelter, clothing, medical care, thank you for sunshine and the beach and New York City and all the places I have been, for my very old car that still runs and gets me to where you send me, for friends and family, for my beloved handicapped doggies, for your amazing love, for your awesome beauty, thank you for forever with you, thank you for you above all else, thank you for the Body of Christ, oh, and how I love your Bible, thank you for our relationship, dear Lord, thank you for speaking to me and even for refining and chastening me, and for your mercy, compassion, comfort, and forgiveness, oh Lord, I could go on forever thanking you, but forever still won’t be enough because you are wonderful and glorious and awesome beyond measure!

Help us to be thankful, dear Lord, and may you be honored, loved, worshiped, praised, revered, glorified, served, and pleased by how we express our thanksgiving to you in the way we live each and every day. Oh Lord, how awesome, how awesome, how awesome, you are, I love you Lord, help us to love you the way you desire to be loved! Thank you, thank you, for being Lord, oh, how I could go on and on, let us go on loving you and thanking you, oh yes, hallelujah, hallelujah, Lord, AMEN!

“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.” James 1:17

The Right Way to Love Others

The Lord doesn’t ask us to love one another. He COMMANDS us to love one another. His two greatest commands are all about love. Loving Him with all our hearts first and foremost. Second, loving others as ourselves. Is this all He tells us about love? By no means! Throughout the Bible, He teaches us about His love for us, the love we are to have for Him and how it is to be expressed with humility, praise, honor, adoration, worship, service, obedience, and glorifying the Lord. And He tells us continually how exactly we are to love others and what in great detail that love looks like.

Fervent, sincere, and pure are three words that beautifully describe the love of others to which we are called as the Lord shows us in the verses below. We are to be fervent in our love for others! We are to be sincere in our love for others! We are to have pure hearts in our love for others!

Let’s look more closely at this. Fervency signifies great passion, devotion, zeal, and care! Sincerity signifies truth and genuineness not faking love nor simply going about the motions of loving people. A pure heart signifies that our thoughts and feelings are godly and not filled with underlying bitterness, jealousy, resentment, judgment, condemnation, hurt, vengeance, etc. even as outwardly we may be putting on an appearance of loving others. When the Holy Spirit shows us our thoughts are ungodly, we need to repent and purify our hearts whereby we get rid of all the wrong ones! That way, we can love and serve the Lord and others with pure hearts purely and passionately!

I am greatly convicted by the Holy Spirit even as I write this that I have a long way to go in loving others to the degree and in the way He desires. Oh, sure, I am growing in love. But I have my times of falling short whereby I need to repent. Most assuredly I need to climb up onto that potter’s wheel and place myself in the hands of the Lord as He by His Spirit through His Word continues to perfect His ways in me. As He continues to teach me how to love the way we are called to love.

Friend, we need to continually purify our hearts and lives and purge from ourselves all ungodliness right down to our very thoughts, words, and actions. And we need to strive in the strength of Christ for the glory of Christ to be real and passionate and pure in our love for the people the Lord places in our lives. Always remembering to love Jesus FIRST.

Please don’t be discouraged if you find you are falling short. Be encouraged as I am and take the challenge set before you to grow in love toward the Lord and in love toward others. Hallelujah, yes!

Oh my Lord, teach us to love! To love you first as so many of us struggle with loving others before loving you if we’re honest with ourselves. And so many of us struggle with loving ourselves instead of loving you first when you never command us to love ourselves at all. You command us to love YOU and to love OTHERS. Your love is so awesome that we don’t even need to love ourselves because we are so blessed and complete in your love for us! And then we are more blessed still in the love we receive from others. But this prayer, Father, is about our love for others. Help us to love you first, yes, and when it comes to loving others, help us to love them from a pure heart, passionately, and sincerely, yes, Father, yes, AMEN!

“Since you have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit in sincere love of the brethren, love one another fervently with a pure heart,” 1 Peter 1:22

“And above all things have fervent love for one another, for “love will cover a multitude of sins.”” 1 Peter 4:8

“Now the purpose of the commandment is love from a pure heart, from a good conscience, and from sincere faith,” 1 Peter 1:5

Every Single Breath

I was married to a man with a horrific lung disease coupled with an opioid addiction the combination of which left him for years struggling to breathe. He used to tell people breathing for him was like trying to breathe through a straw. The end of his life was spent on oxygen. He ultimately drew his last challenging breath and went on by God’s grace alone to be with the Lord.

Every breath is a gift from the Lord, and I wonder, how many of us take this for granted as I did for so long? How many of us are thankful for every breath we take knowing full well it is only by God’s love, grace, and mercy that He gives us each and every one of them? Do we give consideration to our breathing? Are we filled with thanksgiving to the Lord?

I love the Bible verse about everything that has breath praising the Lord. Friend, let us be thankful for each breath the Lord God almighty gives us, and let us use our breaths, our words, our hearts, our very lives to love, praise, serve, and glorify God forevermore, AMEN!

Lord, for everything we have ever taken for granted right down to this very breath we are taking right now, I as I write this, and my precious readers as they are reading this, forgive us. And please accept from us our thanksgiving for everything with which you bless us with day by day throughout our lives. Our greatest blessing, Father, is you! Thank you for every single breath, and may we use all of our breaths to come to bring glory to your name however you desire, thank you, Lord, AMEN!

“Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.” Psalm 150:6
