Not Just a Servant

I love, love, love the Lord beyond imagination, and I love to serve Him beyond belief. I can’t imagine nor would I want a day in my life without much opportunity to serve Him given my exceeding ever-growing love for Him. But I have to be careful and so must you if you have a servant’s heart like He has given me.

We who believe in and follow Jesus Christ as Lord need to remember we are not just His servants. We are also His beloved children! And the Lord desires us to enjoy our forever relationship with Him as our precious Father in addition to serving Him as His beloved servants!

Good and faithful servants are to love and serve Him with all our hearts and to experience and enjoy and praise and worship and adore Him as our precious Father, Lord, and master as we go forth in our lives as forever His!

May these verses encourage you if you have repented and received Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior to thoroughly enjoy the blessing, honor, and privilege of being a child of God almighty as well as His servant!

“Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons [also child per Strong’s concordance]of God…” 1 John 3:1

“For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons [also child per Strong’s concordance]of God. For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.” Romans 8:14-15

“Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.” 2 Corinthians 6:17-18

Came to Serve

I attended a church service some years ago for the homeless whom I dearly love when I decided to stop going to the service because I didn’t like aspects of the service. One day the Lord broke through my pride, self-righteousness, judgment, and selfishness and used this verse to lead me to repentance and send me back to the service to do something altogether surprising which shouldn’t have been surprising in the least. To lovingly and humbly SERVE! Not as an obligation with a bad attitude, but in answer to His calling to serve – with the right heart!

“For even the Son of man came not to be ministered [also served per Strong’s concordance]unto, but to minister [also serve per Strong’s concordance], and to give his life a ransom for many.” Mark 10:45

Please note the word SERVICE in church SERVICE. I had it all backwards. I was caught up in SELF and seeking to be served instead of denying self, taking up my little cross, and following the Lord which includes SERVING Him and others.

“…Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.” Mark 8:34

I still didn’t like aspects of the service, but I had the opportunity to humble myself and serve as I should have done in the first place!

Even as I write this, I know the Holy Spirit is using the same verse to bring more conviction, correction, and refining in my life. I ever need to humble myself and to be vigilant about not falling back into my selfish, self-seeking ways.

We are not to seek to be served, friend. We are to continually seek opportunities to love and SERVE the Lord and others as His Holy Spirit so leads us! With a glad, humble, and thankful heart!
