Because the GOT SHAKESPEARE? bumper sticker made me think of all the people who are scurrying through their lives traveling the world, accumulating educational degrees, gorging on intellectualism, piling up resumes, reading voraciously, learning, learning, stockpiling on intelligence, accomplishing worldly feats to the nth degree, and on, and on and on, for all intents and purposes in the eyes of the world living incredible lives with their minds feasting on knowledge and relishing in watching Shakespeare plays, memorizing the front page news, being able to engage in conversation with worldly wisdom beyond description. But – And there it is. But – But all the Shakespeare in the world, and all the intellectualism in the world, and all the degrees and countries visited, all the 10-page resumes and all the other stuff, well. Well –
Well this. There is nothing necessarily wrong with enjoying plays and travel, education and accomplishments, but I believe there are countless people who are headed straight for eternity in hell because they’ve got Shakespeare and such but have neglected to give their hearts and lives, their time and care, above all else to repenting of their sins, placing their faith in Jesus Christ who died on the cross to pay the penalty for our sins, and becoming committed followers of Christ as they learn to live according to the ways of the Lord instead of the ways of this world by studying the Bible and applying it to their lives. Something tells me Shakespeare is not going to amount to a hill of beans in hell, and yet countless people are giving up a relationship with the Lord here on earth and giving up spending eternity with Him in heaven because they are living their lives consumed with the things of this world more than anything else.
Got Shakespeare? It really is neither here nor there, isn’t it? GOT JESUS? There is no BOLDER question than this one. Got Jesus? It’s a matter of life or death. It’s a matter of everlasting life in heaven with God or eternity in hell forever separated from Him.
Rom 10:8 But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;
Rom 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
Rom 10:10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
Rom 10:11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
Rom 10:12 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.
Rom 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
Rom 10:14 How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?
Rom 10:15 And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!
Rom 10:16 But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report?
Rom 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
