There are love tragedies, and there are love tragedies. Heartbreaking stories of a spouse having affairs for years before the adultery is discovered. A parent entrusted with loving a child abusing the child and leaving permanent scars. Children following the way of alcohol and drugs and breaking the hearts of their parents who love them so dearly. A woman being deeply in love with a man only to find the man does not desire to return her love. Oh, the love tragedies of this life. But there is one love tragedy greater than any other, and you and I are either a part of this greatest love tragedy ever – or not.
God’s greatest commands for all humans are to love Him with all our hearts and to love each other, and I believe the greatest love tragedy ever is how many people worldwide are not loving the Lord with all their hearts and are not loving each other.
Perhaps you believe I write only of those who do not believe in God. This is not so.
I am referring to 3 categories of people:
- Those who do not believe in and follow and live for the Lord Jesus Christ whereby they do not love the Lord at all and love others when they want to
- Those who do believe in the Lord Jesus Christ but are lukewarm in their love for God and pick and choose whom and when to love
- Those who sincerely love the Lord with all their hearts whereby they are in obedience to God’s greatest command but are only loving others when they feel like it
This message is hard on my heart to write let alone to even think about.
I grew up not believing in God and therefore did not love Him. I was selective in whom I loved. Then, once I believed in the Lord, I was only half-hearted in my love for Him and very selective regarding whom I loved. Then I fell madly in love with God but sinfully still was choosey concerning loving others. God led me to repentance and changed me. Today, by His grace alone, I love the Lord with all my heart and with His love I love others as myself.
Friend, God first loved us. So much so He sent His only Son Jesus to the cross to pay our sin penalty and raised Him from the dead. So all who turn from our sins, believe in Jesus as Lord and in His death and resurrection, truly turning our lives over to God and His ways, are forgiven, given a forever relationship with God, and His Spirit comes to live in us. This is how we are saved from hell and the lake of fire and will spend forever in heaven instead.
God first loved us, and we are to love Him with all our hearts in return!
Then, with the love of God supplied by His Spirit who lives in us, we are to love each other!
It is all very simple. It is all very beautiful. It is all very powerful. It is all about Jesus. It is all about love.
What an unfathomable love tragedy to see this world breaking God’s greatest commands! But what an unfathomable opportunity you and I have to not be part of the greatest love tragedy ever.
What should we do?
- Repent and believe in Jesus Christ as Lord
- Receive the fulness of God’s love for us
- Love God with all our hearts and express this love by being totally devoted to Him and living in obedience to Him
- Love each other whether we want to or feel like it or not with the love of God
- Pray for others, tell others about Jesus, and model to others loving the Lord with every ounce of our hearts and loving others as we are commanded
Please choose this very day not to be part of the greatest love tragedy ever! May your heart and your life from this day forth be marked by God’s love and bring Him endless joy, love, praise, honor, beauty, and glory, AMEN!
Please will you cry out to God with all your heart to help you walk in His love for the rest of your life?
