Help Me With the Sorrow

“Help me with the sorrow,” I prayed to God as I knelt on my knees at the foot of my hotel room bed before the day began.

One of the hardest seasons of my life. The sadness so tangible I feel at times it could take me down under the massive waves of it and like an undertow in the ocean not release its grip on me and let me rise back to the surface.

But I have learned this about sadness, and about all emotions. We do not need to go through them alone. Oh, sure, we can reach out to others for love, support, encouragement, and prayer, and well we should as God so leads us.

But the #1 place we should go with our sadness, and with all our emotions, is to the Lord Jesus Christ. And in Him, through Him, and from Him we can find the love, comfort, healing, compassion, tenderness, care, goodness, fellowship, friendship, wisdom, peace, joy, hope, closeness, intimacy, refuge, strength, hiding place, release, relief, etc. beyond imagination.

Are you sorrowful, friend? Are you experiencing emotions that feel too big to bear? Are you overwhelmed? Overloaded? Lonely? Grieving? Hurt, bitter, and angry?

Please pour your heart out to sweet Jesus. Come to the beloved Lord God. Come into His presence and cry out to Him in prayer. Be still before Him. Believe in Him and reach out to Him. Cry out, cry out, cry out. Cry your tears before Him. And receive all He has for you.

“My soul, wait silently for God alone, For my expectation is from Him. He only is my rock and my salvation; He is my defense; I shall not be moved. In God is my salvation and my glory; The rock of my strength, And my refuge, is in God. Trust in Him at all times, you people; Pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us…” Psalms 62:5-8 NKJV
